My wife and I are moving to Cincinnati from out of state (300 miles away). A month ago we went to look at Arbors and liked the floorplans, even though we couldn't actually see the apartment we were getting. We filled out an application and were told everything looked fine, but they still had to contact our present landlord. One of the managers was going to call the next day and confirm our move-in date. After not hearing from her for several days, we attempted all day to get in touch with someone at the apt complex, to no avail. It was only after calling their sister complex did they bother returning our calls. We were then notified that we are not getting the apt. Keep in mind that this is now 1 week before moving in. They say they pulled a credit report and it did not meet their standards....that's funny...I've never before had a problem renting an apt and I work in the finance business...I KNOW what is on my credit report and after getting a copy on my own, I see that they lied and never pulled my credit at all. I had letters of recomendation from other landlords and many personal/professional referrences. I don't understand why they lied and didn't even complete my application. This caused me to return to Cincinnati this weekend to find a place to live before we move next week. And imagine my surprise when we were approved by other REPUTABLE apt communities. I am a professional that works with the public on a daily basis and this was VERY unprofessional by the management team at the Arbors. Makes me glad I didn't rent from them anyway. What would have happened after we moved in'.....

It sounds like there is more to the story, and that this gentleman is trying to make himself feel better about something he may have messed up on in life prior to his applying at this community. I have lived here for a couple years, and I know for a fact how professional the staff is here at The Arbors of Anderson. Best of luck in your future endeavors, I hope your life is not as bad as it sounds!

I can tell you that during my stay I had the same problem, shady management. They agree to something verbally to then change it around in the end. Get it in writing, signed and dated!

Just to set the record straight, there has not been a "she" or "her" property manager at the Arbors of Anderson in the past several years. So therefore, if you don't even have the gender right on who the Property Manager is, maybe you haven't really had any interaction with them at all? From my experience, no one is denied to move into a complex unless they have something negative on their credit history or have negative housing history or don't meet standard income qualifications. Just because someone says that they have good credit and are a professional, doesn't mean that there really isn't anything derogatory on their credit. And, sometimes the name of the company who actually pulls the credit report is listed under a different name than the rental community. I would guess that is what has happened in this case. Property Management companies usually use a third party to pull credit reports for them. Overall, rental communities actually WANT people to move in, so they should have no reason to deny someone for bad credit if they really don't have any. Companies have to very strictly abide by Fair Housing laws and can be subject to huge lawsuits for not abiding by these, so it really would be in their best interest to approve anyone they can, unless they do not meet the qualification standards (which it sounds like happened in this case). Don't be so quick to judge - they can't control what is or is not on your credit report, even if it is a mistake.

I had the same problems when I stayed here. The property manager is incompetent and has no clue what is going on in her own complex. She tells you one thing and then changes it around to make herself look better.

I believe this gentleman's post. When I looked at the apartment, they took me to one that was available for rent at the time, but I wasn't looking to move until 2 1/2 months later. So, the leasing agent (not manager, one of the girls in the office) told me their "rent special" was $50 off a month, but I had to get my rent in on or before the first. I asked her how long this special was going on, and that sounded like a good deal. She was not up front with me, and I believe there was a clause in the lease that made this option available to anyone, anytime, and this was not a true "special" that was going to expire, like she lead me to believe. She said that I had to sign up for an apartment, that night, to be eligible, and yet, I had to sign up for an apartment, sight unseen, which I did. Then, there was the move-in date, which I was told this particular apartment would be available 6/7. I had made arrangements for vacation from work, movers, my mom to come into town to help me move. First of all, they informed me upon a phone call I had to make to the office, that the office staff was going to be out on that day. THEN OF ALL THINGS, they couldn't give me a straight answer if the particular apartment I signed up for was even going to be available by the date they had promised. THEN .... they weren't even going to let me see the apartment I signed up for before I moved into it....some of the floor plans are flip-flopped in buildings, and I wanted to see what I was getting. The new manager acted like it was a huge deal, but she relented and finally let me see the apartment. I just wanted to see they layout to know where things (outlets, etc) were so I would know where I wanted to put things upon move-in day. So, needless to say, that made my whole moving experience even more stressful than it normally is for people. Just a note, I was a good paying renter, that always paid rent 10-14 days in advance just to receive the so-called "rent special", but there were other issues I will go into on a separate post. I only stayed for one year. DON'T RENT FROM ARBORS.
