They put the ASS in Aspen Village

I cried as I moved out last night . . . because I was so happy to be gone! The problems with this place are more numerous than can be summarized in this small block of space.
The buildings are decaying hovels with the lowest level of human beings living in them. We were run off the road our 2nd day there by one of our lovely "neighbors." Our complaint to management with the tenet's license number and building of occupancy was ignored.
The front door to the building (which is the only entrance or exit) was broken so many times and we were locked inside our building so many times that the fire marshal was called and is now investigating the whole complex.
The maintenance department consists of creepy middle aged men who couldn't even change a light bulb if their life depended on it. Don't plan on turning your A/C on until sweltering hot mid-June because that's when they have an outside company "flip the switch" to turn it on. Until then you can just sweat and stink the place up some more.
Every single day there was a new and foul smell in the hallway. The place smelled of curry for the first 3 months we lived there thanks to the previous tenant.
The rooms in our apartment had no overhead lighting, yet most of our outlets didn't work. Only one phone jack in the entire place worked and we were told on move in day that it would be our responsibility to have those fixed. The appliances, cabinets, doors, bathroom and carpet are older than me. Their idea of painting between tenants is to break out a can of white spray paint and go to town. The walls are so thin that you can hear every bass beat of the guy next door's gansta rap "music."
The pool should be declared a swamp land because of the amount of oil and dirt in it. You have to run screaming to your shower with a large bar of soap after swimming in the pool in order scrape off the layer of grease that forms on your body during your 10 minute swim. And don't plan on actually swimming on the hottest days. One of our esteemed neighbors gets a discount on rent by being "in charge" of the pool. It's open when they feel like it and loud rap music can be heard 24 hours a day on occasion from the pool house where they just couldn't be bothered to turn it off.
Security is frightening and I would NOT recommend any single females living in this place alone. The halls of the building are very poorly lit. There are no fire extinguishers and no fire exits when your front door is locking you in.
Laundry facilities are a joke! You have to fight to get to the one washer and one dryer that work in the building. And you better stay with your clothes or one of your neighbors is likely to pull them out halfway through the cycle and throw their own clothes in on your $2.25. And at least once a week you will get one of your favorite pieces of clothing back with foreign stains from the washer or dryer.
My husband has watched the behavior and actions of our fellow tenants and is 100% convinced that an Al Queda sleeper cell is operating in the complex. Police are on the premises on a daily basis. We were foolish to think that the District 3 Police Substation on the premises would keep the place safer. It's just a place for the police to write up all the paperwork they have after arresting your next door neighbor.
There is only one road in or out of the complex. So during heavy rain, snow or if there is an accident, you are homeless while you wander the city waiting to be allowed to get to your home.
But all of that is peanuts compared to the management. They are worse than that piece of gum that gets stuck to the bottom of your shoe on a hot day! They are the scum of the earth who couldn't be bothered to give a care about you or your safety. The only time they acknowledge your existence is when rent is due. We have never once been late with our rent. We have never caused trouble, had a complaint filed by our neighbors or done damage to the property. The only complaints we have made to them have been about major appliances not working or when we had to call in a panic because we were locked inside our building. Yet Anita and the fine staff of Aspen Village find the time to write notes and leave them on your door at 4:59 pm Friday evening threatening you with eviction for lease violations if you have a towel drying on the balcony.
Your car must be approved when signing your lease. Ours was, but 11 months into living there we were told our car was "not in keeping with the standards of Fath Properties" and that it would be towed if not fixed within 24 hours. The only thing wrong with my car is a 1" X 1" area of rust behind the two back wheel wells that has been there since 1999 when the car was purchased. And remarkably management found the time to call and have my car towed in the middle of the night as I slept in my bed, but they couldn't find the time to call a locksmith to fix our front door! Funny how they used a tiny patch of rust on my car to have it towed yet their own maintenance vehicles are falling apart, eaten up with rust and with expired tags.
All in all my husband and I lived in Aspen Village for 14 1/2 months. We gave 30-days notice, left the place in better condition than when we moved in, completed all the end of lease paperwork and returned our keys as promised. We abided by these rules because we are classy people with morals and standards and left the place with our heads held high and with our dignity.
If you are looking for a safe home, a place where you can live and thrive as you go through life, DO NOT move to Aspen Village. The place is a dump, the people are frightening and management is vile and despicable. You may be forced to move there for the cheap rent, but no price can be placed on your happiness, safety or sanity.
