I am about to move out of lakeshore Apts. I moved here a year ago and it was definitely a step down from how I have lived all my life. My experience here has been awful but I'm not bashing anyone. The management is fine, very accomodating. Repair times are reasonable. HOWEVER, structurally, this apt complex is terrible. At first, I lived on a bottom floor apt. Everday I came home there were centipedes and potato bugs there to greet me. Even though they sprayed faithfully every Thursday, the problem never went away.
Alot of these buildings have plumbing problems (due to age). I had a huge leak in the first apartment that never got fixed entirely and we discovered mold and mildew inside and outside the walls and baseboards. I demanded to move because of the health hazard but now some fortunate victim of the windstorm damage lives there.
In the current apt building, I have had another plumbing problem and terrible ant problems. Now, I know that ants are better than centipedes any day BUT you shouldn't have to put ALL of your groceries in the fridge (cereal and all!). Socially, I have had no problems until I moved into the second apt. Now domestic violence is almost an everyday occurence. The police patrol thru on a regular basis and it is never a surprise to see multiple patrol cars in front of any of the buildings. I don't see how people raise kids here. I wouldn't complain so much about the noise because of the age of the property. However, maintenance of cars in the lot is a problem. There are broken down cars that are either missing mufflers (and keep you awake all hours of the night) or are not running at all.
Though reasonably priced, the management should demand a higher standard of living from all tenants. This placed should be screened better to avoid some of the problems they've had. True, money is green but that doesn't mean everyone has the same standards here and some of these people are just slumming it. Bottom line, if you consider yourself middle class or above, this place will not meet your standards of living.

The Management of Lakeshore Drive Apartments qualifies everyone exactly the same way per all Fair Housing Standards and Management does demand a high standard of living from all Residents equally. The buildings are not new and are currently under renovation, we do try very hard to provide good customer service and a good living experience for everyone. Plumbing problems are common in older buildings and when we have these types of problems our response is quick, effective and serviced by caring and well trained maintenance technicans. Social problems caused by people who violate our lease and community rules and regulations result in termination or non renewal of the lease term. The Reading Police are always welcome at the community and communication between law enforcement and Management in any large community is a good thing. I encourage daily Police Patrols and we tag vehicles that can result in removal of the offending vehicle from the community. Our office is open seven days a week and I am available 24 hrs a day. As Manager of Lakeshore you have my promise that I will work hard to resolve any problem to the best of my ability. Lakeshore is not perfect and like all large apartment communities we have our share of challenges.
The difference is at Lakeshore we will acknolwedge what the problem is and act quickly to resolve it.
Most importantly, our Residents know that thier home is our priority and we strive to make thier lives as easy and problem free as possible.
My name is Marianne King and I am proudly the Manager of Lakeshore, you may reach me at 513 821-0011.

I'm sorry but what buildings are currently under renovation besides the ones that sustained damage from the windstorm? In addition, how exactly do you "tag" vehicles for removal? And how do you address issues of mold and mildew besides cutting out and replacing sections of drywall? Did you know that once it becomes airborne it can make people very sick and is potentially carcinogenic! Finally, who wants to live in a place that needs daily police patrols!?!
My review is not targeted toward management or any personnel. You do a fine job considering what you have to work with. I am simply stating experiences of living here that, in my years of experience in other places, are truly a first!
For anyone considering moving to Lakeshore....make them show you a vacant apt in addition to the model. This will give you an idea of how you will be living that is a bit closer to reality. So much time and effort has been taken with the model that should have been put into all the apts. Structural cracks, gaps in between cabinets and walls, and exposed pipes. If you don't mind any of these inconsistencies, then you have picked the right place to live (honestly). Because of this experience I will never allow a model apartment to play a role in my decision-making again.

To Mr or Ms middleclass here, yes these buildings are very old, but with such widsom you have you surly already knew that, and with that widsom why even did you make the move here in the first place? Most people already know that with older buildings there is at times going to be something that needs to be looked at.
Now with any community you will always have some kind of creepy people perhaps, will then those people dont need to stay either, if they do something against the law, will yes the police should be called in. - but Mr or Ms middleclass, I have news for you, there is no community perfect and sometimes the worse crimes is right in your back yard no matter where you live, you can read the news for facts on that. Have a great day!
