GREAT STAFF, NOT SO GREAT SOUND PROOFING

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2007
Ok so I moved into this apartment building in October of 2006 with a roommate who had been living here in a one bedroom for 2 years. He never heard a peep from his neighbors in any direction. Granted, he was sandwiched between 2 elderly people. In our new apartment we have great ammenities, 3 window seats, high ceilings, hardwood floors, ice maker, microwave etc. All those pro's are great but I learned something a little too late.
The apartments in the atrium area of Shillito are horrible for sound transfer... and here's why: This section of the building is the original 1800's construction. The floors are wood and(while very nice looking) they are very bad for sound transfer. You can hear the person above you walking around and in our case the indivual above us is very rude and plays loud techno music at all hours of the night. Management has been very cooperative with us in bringing the problem to an amicable resolution however the individual still decides to be rude from time to time. Sound proofing from side to side is also an issue, this applies to all apartments in the building. Floor to floor transfer is only a problem in the older section of the building. The apartments in the newer section are built on cement flooring and there is no transfer.
In all the people here are great, I've made new friends and have a great time with the social events that are planned by the management. I wish they would come back and do a few things like explore sound proofing, satellite TV options and perhaps larger refrigerators.
