Stealing and Lying

I lived at Mariemont Townhomes from 2004 to 2005. I fulfilled my 12 month lease. I also fulfilled every months rent.

My lease ended in September. When I notified the leasing office on July 19 of our intent to vacate at the end of my lease, they said, "How can we convince you to stay'". Hmm. Then almost exactly a month later- two weeks before the lease was up- they informed me that I had not paid rent for July.(Took them long enough to let me know)

So, I grabbed my money order reciept, gave the office manager Western Union's phone number, and told her to call and see that it was cashed. She told me that it wasn't good enough, even though she did admit that it was probably posted to the wrong account.

Anyway, I moved out on August 31. I waited 30 days to see if they would contact me about my deposit. They didn't. Keep in mind that by Ohio state law says that a landlord must contact a former tenant at least 30 within the time that they vacated the property to give them their deposit back or inform them why they aren't getting their deposit back. Mariemont Townehomes failed at this.

So I contacted my attorney. He mailed a letter to the leasing office stating that it's very obvious that they owe us money, and they'd better pay up. When my attorney called the office manager, he was told that a check had been mailed to us the previous week.

So I waited another week and watched the mail. It never came. So my attorney called the office manager again. This time, he was told that no check was going to be sent until we prove that Mariemont Townhomes is who cashed our money order. They lied. They said that the check had been mailed, and it hadn't. Hmm.

So finally, I just recieved the front and back copy of the cashed money order from Western Union for July's rent with Mariemont Townhomes. I can't wait until they see it. I wonder what they'll do next. Judging by their track record, I'm sure it won't be honest.
