I've been living in this community for over 6 years. I totally repent for renewing the lease under this new management. The reasons are quite broad and the connor group seems to be systemically exploiting the tenants to pay more with complete disregard to customer service.
Here is why:
QUESTIONABLE BUSINESS PRACTICES:
I was told that the utility company is a third party company when I first saw by bill jumped from $20 to $50. The fact is questionable. According to state of ohio business filings, HEARTLAND REGIONAL POWER COMPANY and THE CONNOR GROUP are registered under the same address 1255 E ALEX BELL ROAD, CENTERVILLE, OH by the same contact agent Lawrence S Connor. You can check this by viewing the document nos 200431501690(Connor) and 200404403096 (Heartland)

After signing the lease, they forced the me and many others to pay back dues in rent and utilities saying that their accounting system shows a balance, without giving proper explanation why is there a back due in first place. It doesn't matter how many records and receipts you show it to them, they wont accept your rent unless you pay the balance. They said they'll look into the records and come back with an explanation but they never did.
One of the unit in the community had a pest problem. They fixed it alright after numerous complaints and after that, the utility bill for the whole community has a new item and guess what' it is pest control.
One of my neighbour was charged with late fees because the hearland power company lost their checks in the mail four times! She moved out after that without renewing the lease. Good for her!
DISHONEST, MANIPULATIVE AND INCONSIDERATE:
I truly hope that the front office people (every month a new trainee face except the manager ofcourse) are basically nice but they were trained to be rude by connor's training. It is brutally uncomfortable to have any simple conversation with them. I get the feeling that they are trying to screw me whenever I talk to them. Connor's mission statement must be "SMILE AND LIE", "AIM FOR MORE MONEY".
I heard that under the cover of unit inspection every 6 months, they are trying to strike a conversation with the existing leasers to renew their current lease for next 12 months, 5 months before the current lease expires. You get a 30$s discount if you catch this early bird deal otherwise you have to pay 100 - 150$ more after the lease expires.
They resurfaced roads in the community where they show the apartments to the new prospects and painted tar on the other side where there is less chance for the prospects to see.
As far as I know, no one who moved out got their security deposits back and few have been harassed to pay more just so that they'll stop asking their security deposit.
I dont want to start about the snow/maintenance issues. This post will never end.

Long story short - Life is too short to waste dealing with these lowlife scumbags. Let us teach them a lesson by taking our business elsewhere. I would be willing to contribute if there is connor group victims user group :)

Thanks for this post. Management has been posting horribly unprofessional ads all over craigslist. The price seems somewhat reasonable for a 3 bedroom but I would rather pay a little more for honest, upfront management practices. The fact that management would post your name (or their best guess) is beyond the pale. These people sound like spiteful crooks!

100% agreed. Experienced the same things and did not renew my lease this past spring. The Connor Group is horrible.

These people are crooks and they actually have classes teaching their sales people how to LIE to new and current residents. THEY do indeed own Heartland and they are charging you excessive rates for their water. They also use a bait and switch scam to get you to renew your lease. They come to you with a lease of $120 rate increase per month but "if you sign today" we can give you a special of only $60.00. But if you can hold out till the month your lease expires you may actually be able to only have an increase of $10.00. The Connor Group is the worst in shady management. SCUM LORD~!

This is all true, coming form a former employee of this company, I can truly attest that all of these reviews are true of this property and every other property they own. I felt horrible by scamming decent people into paying $50-80 more on there rent each year, and for what??It's not like they upkept the property or did anything to make you want to continue to live there. It's a shame, after theylet me go, I felt an extreme burden lifted off of my shoulders, the best part is they sent me to Ft Lauderdale,FL just one month before firing me, so I scored big for everyone they've mistreated!!!If someone does ever start a Connor Support group, I will be happy to head the meetings!!
