Don't Live Here.

Ok, first let me get on my soap box. So much is tied together and I will get to the specifics of the apartments in a moment. If you -must- live in Cincinnati (and I don't recommend it) Anderson is -not- the place to try to get away from the all the trash.

There are no major highways and Beechmont Ave. is very ugly and shows a lack of city planning (most of the Cincinnati area looks like this BTW). Don't be fooled into thinking this is a typical 1st tier suberb; you -will live- out in the boonies. Their is no shopping and no culture.

Most of the people who live way out in Anderson enjoy this type of atmosphere, own nice homes, and appear to be oblivious to their predicament. Like so much of Cincinnati, these people have always lived here and always will live here.

If you have children, consider how they may feel being labeled the "new kid" and being put down for having less than everyone else (because you rent, remember'). To add to the children's stress, some of the buses won't even come into the neighborhood adding up to a 10 minute walk depending on which apartment you have (by chance, you will want the ones -furthest- away from the bus stop btw; I'll explain later).

If you do not have a choice and -have- to live in Cincinnati, you might want to consider either parts of Hyde Park or Mt. Lookout. If those type of neighborhoods isn't what you are after, then either consider Blue Ash, Montgomery, or Northern Kentucky. However, I -strongly- recommend you just leave the entire area if at all possible.

Now to the -apartment-. The first day we moved in, our cat started hissing. It didn't take long to discover pet urine stains all over the carpet in nearly every room. The carpet was left so filthy that our cat could smell the former renters' cat. I am turning my head now to look at a handfull of them as I type this; I have lived here over 2 years.

After moving in, we soon called maintenance concerning the nasty carpet, leaky faucets, a leak in the downstairs ceiling, closet doors that wouldn't open and shut properly, toilets that overflowed (2 out of 3 bathrooms) and a missing weather strip under the front door (which leaved a gap about an inch and a half off of the ground).

Maintenance came in the apartment (not thinking to take their shoes off) and told us that the urine stains were not stains. Rather they explained that they were "spots" left from cleaning the carpet.

Concerning the toilet, we were told not to put too much paper in them (we -didn't- and that -wasn't- the problem). One of the maintenance men with a mullet (do you need a refresher in United States geography') showed me a trick of lifting the back of the toilet as I flush and pulling up on the ball to keep it from overflowing. In the 2 years and 3 months that we have lived here, we have had to use this "little trick" every single day, and then use a plunger. Nice maintenace huh' How embarrasing for guests!

In fairness, the closets -were- fixed. But the leaks never were fixed. The weather strip was replaced so that the huge gap between the bottom of the front door and the outside pavement diminished from about an inch and a half to only half an inch; it ripped off in a few days.

I forgot to mention that we live in one of the largest and nicest apartments. Those are the ones in the back of the property (far away from the bus stops). The front of the property looks like section 8 housing with people hanging out with no where to be.

Your children will pass those dumps every morning as they walk to the bus stop. You will pass them every day as you leave, and they will be the first thing you see as you come home. Your family and friends will pass them too on their way to see your new home. What an impression you will make!

You will also pass those dumps on your way to empty your garbage. There is only one place in the entire neighborhood to empty your trash. If you have the nicer apartments, it will be too far to walk. After a few days, you will begin to understand why you see people driving around with garbage on the backs of their car. And also, such a ridiculous sight complements the mullets as well.

My grade school daughter has now learned about selling drugs since we moved here. Lots of teenagers will hang out in the nice places late at night (because it is far away from -their- homes and they have no where to be nor nothing to do either).

Fortunatelly for us, we are moving to a -nice- city and into a nice apartment as well. For just a little more money we will have a much nicer place. Everything one could need or want (diners, cafes, clubs, markets, delis, dry cleaning, restaurants, shopping galore, theatre, art, and music) will all be within walking distance. -Some- of the places in my new neighborhood might be a little further than -you- will have to walk to take out your garbage if you move here, but -none- of the places will be as far away as your -child- will have to walk every day!

Oh, if you want the closest restaurant, consider how far your child will walk to school; that is about the halfway point to a White Castle. Nice!

I won't be thinking about you and your "slider" while -I- am at the Uptown diner or riding my bike around Lake Calhoun. And while you are drinkning a nasty MGD at Applebees (you will have to drive), I will be enjoying a wide selection of good imports at Figlios or Old Chicago. If you are goolge savy, you can figure out where I live. Perhaps you too could be so fortunate some day. At least for now though, stay away from Stonegate, and good luck to you. Kindest regards.
