Yo!

The worst place I have ever lived in my life

I lived in apartment 222 at the Federal Knitting Mills Building for 13 months, the worst period of my life.

The building in general looked pretty good before I moved in, but gradually deteriorated over the period as maintenance stopped being performed.

The washer/dryer area was pretty good, although the coin changer routinely was out of service or gave inaccurate change; the units should have been coinless in a place like this.

The workout area was also pretty good, although seemingly un-air-conditioned and not very actively maintained.

The garage was also fine, although the door was out of service about 15 times over the course of my residence. This served to expose the cars inside to car thieves, and several were broken into as a result of the door's malfunctions. Most of the garaged cars were pretty expensive (Audis, Porsches, etc.) and so this was a pretty serious problem.

All of these issues could be overlooked, if it wasn't for the absolute horror that was the apartment itself. I was on the 2nd of 3 floors, which should have been fine considering the building's solid concrete floors. However, the tenants above me were apparently drug dealers/disc jockeys/god knows what. They literally never slept. Dishes fell out of my kitchen cabinets. The entire building shook as a result of their music and parties. I know you've heard this sort of thing before, but it was seriously awful at the FKMB. I would go in to the office to try to get some sleep on occasion.

The management were completely useless. 20 phone calls, none returned. If they did show up, of course the people upstairs would have quieted down moments before (prompting suspicions of the maintenance man being friends with the people above me).

On another occasion, the person who lived across the hall actually beat his girlfriend outside (and against) my door to the point where she lost control of her bodily functions. While I called the police on her behalf, it ultimately made no difference; she was back the next week getting severely beaten in the hallway.

This should give you an idea of the kind of human refuse who live in this building, all because the management refuses to take any sort of hand in the running of the place. For an apartment building with apartments that cost upwards of $1200 a month, I find this to be totally unacceptable. I would not recommend this building to my worst enemy.

This person is NOT lying. I lived in the FKMB from 2004-2005 and had the same issue. I loved the place (as do most people when they first move in and don't experience problems!) but after living there for 6 months, I got a new neighbor. He was just like the poster described--he was horribly loud, stayed up all night, and had ALL his friends over until 5 am every Friday and Saturday night. He lived next door. When I told management, they did not do anything. I was literally forced to move out--I absolutely could not live like that. So what this poster is telling you is NOT false, it can be a loud building in terms of the concrete floors and open hallways. You hear everything--especially the stuff you don't want to.

I lived in apartment 222 from July 2004 through February 2007, and I never had the trouble in that apartment that this poster had.
