Decent ... but $$$$ and with some minor problems...

This was the first apartment I rented while in Cleveland Hts. I admit I didn't look around very much prior to signing the lease and I'm now quite sure that the rent was exorbitantly high and I more or less got suckered.

As far as location, it's very well situated. It took me about 5-10 minutes to walk down the hill to UH, a tad longer to get to the center of campus. With a bike, it would be a breeze (maybe a 2-3 minute ride to mather or case quad). Make sure to take into account getting back up the hill at the end of the day, though. It's a bit of a hike.

**Apartment itself / the good**

Cabinet space was adequate and the included appliances (stove/fridge/dishwasher) all worked fine. Bathroom facilities never posed a problem and the bathroom itself was pretty nice. DSL went in without a hitch, as did all utilities. They even had a funky cable connection that gave some people on my floor sporadic free cable (it went on and off every few weeks... ''). It was never very noisy except on fri/sat nights. Even then, when I was in, it wasn't overly loud at any time. There were lots of windows and the temperature was quite easy to keep stable. I also liked the hardwood floors.

**the bad**

I had a problem with a leaky kitchen sink, but it was fixed in a day or so. The included dishwasher was nice, but annoyingly loud and out-of-place. They included one of the external ones that rolls around, and that fits nowhere really.

The last month or so of my lease (August 2001), I began to see several tiny bugs crawling around by the wall in the kitchen. I generally kept things rather clean, so this was a tad disturbing. Management claimed to have sprayed once, but I ended up moving out with the bugs still hanging out. I won't go into bug details, but they were nasty. They were at least afraid of me and my cat, and never posed a major problem. I'm just glad that they stayed away until just about when I had to move out.

They paved the driveway twice while I was there, which was good. However, they didn't provide us temporary parking and just told us not to be there from 6am-8pm or something. Somewhat annoying, but I guess it was just a minor inconvenience.

UPS didn't have a key, and thus couldn't leave packages by the mailboxes. Newspapers were left in a heap in the front lobby and mine got taken I'd say 5 days out of 7.

Ok, get this... They "include" 2 ice trays with the fridge. I needed to make more ice than that, so I bought a few more. When I moved out, I got $10 deducted from my security deposit to cover these ice trays that I had forgotten to leave. Who charges $10 for 2 green plastic ice trays. For that price you'd think they were gold-plated.

To keep my cat from batting at the venetian blind pulls and twist-bars, I took some of them down and set them next to the respective windows. Apparently when I moved out, I forgot to reattach one of the twist-bars. So they deducted another $20 from the deposit to cover a "broken blind".

Talk about anal ... not to mention greedy.

**the ugly**

Well, the walls had obviously been painted and repainted 100 times or so. I think management was going for an artsy, antique look, but to me it eventually just looked ugly. Hanging things on the walls also proved to be a bit of a pain due the the "bubbled-out" paint.

The laundry room was a little dungeon under the stairwell. Besides always feeling discusting after going down there, if you're taller than 5'10", you will bump your head on something on your way down. The machines worked alright, but the gauntlet to get to them was horrible.

**conclusion**

Unless you can get a great deal on a double near the front of the building, I wouldn't rent here. Those were the only really nice units that I saw there. The one-bdrm in retrospect is ***way*** overpriced for what you get. Personally, my bug experience at roosevelt was the kicker. I didn't renew my lease because of it.

All in all, look around overlook, derbyshire and coventry a lot before deciding on roosevelt.
