I'm a current resident here, and I have to say that I'm pretty upset about the fire safety here. We have a faulty fire alarm (like back in your dorms in college...remember that') so it goes off at any given time-which means, of course, sometimes residents evacuate, others try to call downstairs to see if it's real, and others stay in their apts, thinking it's fake. One particular time it went off, it was real...and the resident DIED. This is not a joke! This happened a few weeks ago. According to the letter that RS sent to all of the residents, as it was all over the news, the fire alarm in the HALLWAY went off, which sparked their attention...the FIRE DEPT had the fire out 1/2 hour later. Now mind you, the fire station is literally around the corner from us. My colleague's husband is a fire man, and what I found out is that there was a water main break, so they were having difficulty getting water up to the guy's apartment, which was proven by the broken water pipe in our parking garage...so now all of us residents are fully aware of the decrepit and rusty pipes in the garage, which, as evidence now, can fail just when we need them. View http://www.woio.com/global/story.asp's=8863073 for the story (take a look at the damage to the news studio...do you see water on the floor' Again, this is NO JOKE NOR SPECULATION!). http://www.newsnet5.com/slideshow/news/17230202/detail.html has pictures of the outside of the apt so you can see the severity of the fire. So I'm writing this right now as a warning-our fire alarm went off yet again this morning, but, as many times before, it was false. So ask yourself this-should you live in a place where you have to wonder if the fire's real every time you hear the alarm' Thinking 'is it REALLY real this time'' I don't want what happened to that poor guy to happen to anyone else. Consider yourself warned.

Security in this place is a joke. I'm afraid to sleep in this place at night. People come in and out of the lobby door at will. Usually people that don't live here wait at the door until someone will lives here allows them to enter. A security guard is usually not at the desk.

I too am a current resident in Reserve Square. Last Thursday night at 3:30am I was sleeping in my bedroom with the door shut. My cell phone rang, which was thankfully on ring, b/c it is usually on vibrate. It was my neighbor, telling me the place was filled with smoke and to get out of my apt. The fire alarm was going off in the hallway, but I couldn't hear it with my bedroom door shut. Frantically, I opened my bedroom door and realized my ENTIRE apt was filled with a THICK foul smelling (like burning wire) smoke!! I couldn't even see to find my apt keys, and just left my apt!! The hallway was so thick of smoke you could not see two feet in front of you. The alarm above my bedroom door NEVER went off. Apparently, they are cheaply made smoke detectors that only are triggered by a certain type of smoldering smoke. This same smoke detector was not triggered when Brett McDavid's apt was caught on fire by his outline in the kitchen that he had NOTHING plugged into!!! My apt now has black smoke marks on the wall, and EVERYTHING in my apt, including my entire closet of clothes smell like burning wire smoke...it's incredibly foul. I have been extensively fighting with the leasing office, who actually had the nerve to tell me that "the way the building is designed, you're actually safer in your apt during a fire, but we can't tell you not to evacuate!!" I think the black smoke marks on my wall tell a different story. My whole apt was filled with smoke and I thank God everyday that my neighbor called me wake me up that night. I haven't been able to sleep in my apt since, the smell is overpowering and causes headaches and makes you sick!!
