Why you only see the bad

I was asked by someone in my building if I would contribute to this site with a negative review. I would have to assume it's the same group of people who have recently posted. The truth is that I can't. And more over, I have to say that I have been a happy resident here for 12 years. When I moved in, there was drug activity and section 8 on the property. It was not a great place to be but it was all I could afford. Luckily, within 2 years of living here, Montlack bought the property and began restructuring it. They removed over half of the residents from my building alone. The completed massive renovations that have left this looking more like a property in the suburbs than one in the dying city of Cleveland. They do have limitations. This is still a building that is probably 50 years old and not maintained for most of it's life. We still are on Cleveland sewer system which is over 100 years old and prone to flooding.
In my building there are 3 of us who have been here as long as I have and 2 who have been here almost as long. For a group of 12 apartments, that's almost half that have been here for a decade or longer. The reason you don't see the bad is this: We don't move. We're happy. We have no reason to create a stir on the internet about our building because we like that it's quiet and somewhat of a secret. It never would have occurred to me even to look for reviews of my apartment until I was prompted by a disgruntled neighbor. Usually the disgruntled neighbor writing bad reviews is the bad apple, the problem. I have seen many overly entitled people come and go in my building, many trashy types that don't want to take responsibility for their children or clean up after themselves. I feel pity for the two women in the office who have to deal with them because they are a cross to bear and then they come here to complain. The truth is that the rest of us are happy. We don't disturb the peace and so we have a perfectly fine relationship with the management. If you do intend to cause problems, this is not the place for you as we don't put up with that here. We are a community and we intend to keep it that way.

I can only respond to your review by thinking that after living there as long as you have that you have become accustomed to that lifestyle, that you no longer see the negative because it has become part of your everyday living,I lived in a building with one bedroom suites and although I too like the office staff they have their hands tied by the need(greed) of the "powers that be" and rent to single parents with unruly children that would interfere with the quality of my life, the maintenance staff was and still is, lazy and rude to the very people that help to supplement their income, I lived there for several years and although I had many good memories while there, they were of my own making, I also met some nice people while living there, I still say that the bad outweighed the good

Not the original poster, but don't forget that fair housing makes it so they can't base their decisions on whether someone has kids or what they look like or how they talk. I don't think they can exactly go live with the person for a week to see how it goes. Too bad there aren't homeowner's association-like things for renters. Landlords have too much at risk to touch a discrimination case like that.
