The office staff at Northsteppe are great, friendly, and all smiles until you sign the lease. After that, you will never ever hear from them again. The very first week I moved in, the cockroach and mouse infestation became apparent, and 15 months later, I have had to take legal action. The office is staffed with a bunch of 20-year-old bimbos who are completely imcompetent. I have friends who rented from Northsteppe because the girls were hot, and then regretted it when their roof caved in.
I have called more than 30 times to request extermination, but they have only been sent twice. When they did come, they had sprays, which no liscensed exterminator will use alone. He sprayed all over my dishes, food preparation surfaces, and even my cabinets where I store food. And when I asked for him to treat the mice, he didn't have the stuff.
I have been hung up by Peg several times, and by the bimbos several times as well (although I don't really think they know how to use a phone.) I've talked to my neighbors, and they also say that they've been hung up on while trying to report insect problems. The most recent hang-up was prompted by me telling her that if a unit is infested with cockroaches, it should not be rented.
They also require that you attach an invoice that states that your carpet was professionally cleaned to your keys when you move out. After I checked with the Student Legal Clinic, they said that this is illegal. And besides, my carpet was stained and cruncy when I moved in.

On several times I have asked to speak with management and have been refused. On occasions when I go there in person to speak with a manager, I am told that he is not in, even though I know who he is and can see him sitting right there.

Water gets in my windows, and causes mold and mildew build-up, not to mention the lead paint that is chipping off. In my bathroom, you can see behind peeling paint the black mold that they tried to cover up, not by treating it correctly, but by slapping up a quick layer of paint (no primer even!).

Basically, Northsteppe Realty is a slumlord. They know all of the ins and outs. I have written letter upon letter to the seven managers, each time to no response. They don't give a damn about the squalid conditions you live in, just as long as your rent is on time (50 dollar late fees for one day late).
