Some good, mostly bad.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006

I lived at the Arbors for a little over a year.

When I looked at the apartment, they showed me a smaller one bedroom w/o washer/dryer (which is what I wanted) for a low, fixed price. I applied and got the place. When I went to look at the apartment on Wednesday night and sign the final paperwork, they took me to the bigger 1 bedroom, with a washer/dryer. When I pointed out this mistake, they had to give me the bigger one for the cheap price bec/ it was their mistake (which worked out for me, but it could have been bad instead). The carpets had not been cleaned and they had other work to do on the apartment. I was supposed to move in Thursday and let them know this weeks in advance, and they confirmed that was an okay date. First, I was infurirated that the apartment wasn't ready! They told me the carpets couldn't be cleaned until the next day at the soonest, and I wasn't about to have my furniture sitting on wet carpet, so I agreed to them partially cleaning what they could after I moved in. Of course, this NEVER happened. I had to clean it myself.

There were reports of crime, but I was never subject to it. The lighting in the breezeway would go out and not be replaced for a month at a time. This makes it hard to get into your apartment if you can't see where to put the key. The concrete stairs at the bottom were crumbling, they blocked them off and never fixed them.

The noise level got old after a while. Either the people above or next to be would blare their music at 2am and wake me up. Eventually, they moved out and it stopped. People would not clean up after their pets, so there was always dog crap somewhere. Also, college kids would throw a party, have beer cans everywhere, and they wouldn't be cleaned up for a week. The trash area would also overflow at least once a month due to not being emptied regularly. The fact we had to pay water/sewer/trash was ridiculous. It was about $40/month and they didn't even empty the dumpster very often. A friend of mine lived there as well, her air conditioner broke and it took them over a week to fix it in the middle of the summer! I did use the exercise facilities only once, the equipment was dirty, old and outdated and there was no central air in the room.

The people in the leasing office were friendly, but frankly, idiots. I subleased my apartment with 8 months left. That process alone was horrible. It took weeks and they wanted ridiculous things from the new tenant for them to rent. Also, after I had been moved out for 5 months, the Arbors called ME about HER not paying her rent on time, and about maintenance issues! I told them each time, "I don't live there anymore and haven't since September." The response' "Oh I guess you're right. What is her number''" After all the hassel subletting, they didn't know her number yet and I gave it to them at least 4 times. Finally, I told the woman to stop calling me and I was a little more than angry. She deleted my number out of the system and I had to give her the subletters number, AGAIN...

Also, my rent jumped over $100 dollars when I resigned the lease. I stayed bec/ I knew I was moving later in the year anyway.

After all this complaining about the place, the apartment itself was nice. The appliances were newer, the washer/dryer worked very well and I never had maintenance issues in the apartment. I felt secure with the multiple locks on the very sturdy door, and as I said, I was never a victim of my car being broken into as reported by other tenants. I did see police patrolling after the break-ins started. I had an apartment that overlooked the grassy area in the middle, and I never heard the traffic from 670 that was right behind the apartment complex. The leasing office secured packages to be picked up instead of leaving them on your doorstep. The parking was usually adequate and carports and garages were available. People drove at an appropriate speed. The complex was very very pet friendly (even large dogs) and there was a lot of interaction between tenants.
