I lived in Essington village two years ago, I only moved out because my friend needed a roommate in her apartment. I didnt really have any problems.
I thought the maintenance was great compare to the other apartments I have live in. My air unit broke, and the guys were out the next day and had to order a whole new unit and it was replace the day after. So in all it only took 48 hours. My last apartment it took 3 months to get my air fixed.
About half way through my lease, I forgot to pay my rent on the day it was due. I had never been late on a payment, and I went in the office and explained and they were really nice about it, and said not to worry about it. I always thought the office staff was really nice. But I think they got all new staff after I left.
Overall I would say I had a nice stay. I wouldnt rate the area top quality though. There were a couple of nights that I didnt feel safe. Like when I came home to a drunk guy dancing in the front lawn.I guess that comes with paying low rent.

I lived in Essington Village from April of 2005 to the end of my 12 month lease.
I would say that this complex is not ideal for people raising children or value peace of mind, security and a prompt staff. They are under New Life Management Properties. When I first moved in to the studio apartments my kitchen cabinet door fell off and almost hit my foot. It was all electric but the coils on the oven would not stay in place thus I had to continue re-adjusting them in order to finish preparing my food. A nail was poking out of the carpet, they painted over the bathroom sink and kitchen sink, making it difficult to clean messes.
When I first got there the maintenance people wasn't done the day I was set to move in so I had to come back. There was duct tap all over the windows (later I found out that this is because the last residents had a bad draft in the apartment)...yeah, I found out first hand...my heater had broken down and I had repeatedly came to the office, written notes and left messages to get it fixed...my apartment was like an ice box in the winter so I had to use my oven on broil to heat my home. Staff has a bad habit of allowing the maintainence people into your place...but not to fix anything, no one else had my key, yet food kept coming up missing, I hate McDonalds yet I had the trash in my trash can and they tore my shower curtain down..I JUST BOUGHT them!!!!! I could not prove that they did it or anything so I had to grin and bear it.
Then the shower rod fell on me in the shower..the first time I notified them, they fixed it, the second time it fell, they never came to fix it so I bought my own and used that one. Then there was a roach problem...I always kept my place clean but roaches were in the building so of course I had to get them too. The gap in the door was so wide you could see light from the halls, which brightened my apartment at night along with the bright lights from outside, the walls are paper thin so you can here everybody's business. There are only two washers and dryers that you have to share with the whole building that costs more than most. People leaves trash outside thier door, leave food on the floor in the hallway and litters all in the entry way...There is this oriental guy that always used to clean up after everyone though.
Then there's that noise that scares the crap out of me late at night coming from the attic, like there's people walking around up there...Never Quiet.
Then they put in knew outlets with a safety feature....yet one didn't fit anything I had there, the other one came out of the wall...and all the others were fine. All in all I would say that if you are strapped for cash and just need a place to stay, get a short lease and build your money up and look some place else...however, if your budget allows you to move elsewhere, please do your own research and digging before you jump into it..Because nothing is ever what it seems.
Also, when I moved out the heater or shower curtain still wasn't fixed and they didn't care. And you may want to be careful about the neighborhood, nearing the end of the lease there was a shootout in the circle and two men in the truck were struck and one was killed (10tv news) this was around 2-3am, then off of maple canyon (a street that leads into the circle but there are no street lights (so its pretty dark)) this guy was stepping out of his house, this was at night, and this guy was outside drenched in blood because he was shot several times, so he called the ambulance and they made a police report, I don't know if he made it but my prayers go out to him. If you're considering this place..Please be extremely careful okay, don't go out too late, don't let a lot of people in and out of your place, stay to yourself, etc. Good luck to you on your search.
