It seems like a very nice community with excellent ammenities upon your first several visits. The apartment homes are very spacious with a lot of closet space, attached garages (2 and 3 BR models) and very nice cabinetry/hardware/other features.
However, do not allow these superficial items to make your decision to live here.
I live in a first floor apartment. At 2:30 am, if the resident above me needs to use the restroom, I can actually hear them urinating. There appears to be almost no sound insulation between the first and second floor apartments. Be certain to request that a friend/family member be allowed to walk or step hard in the apt above your specific unit (not model) before you sign a lease. If noise is not a concern or if you live on the second floor, then you will not have this issue.
If you want a friendly community with social gatherings and the opportunity to meet people, this is not the community for you. Most people living here are quite private people who park their cars in their garages, close the door and never interact with one another. If you are similar, this will not affect you. And, yes, there are a few residents (typically those with dogs) who are very friendly. But they seem to be few and far between.
Residents are supposed to abide by the community requirements of cleaning up after and leashing their pets. While the majority of pet owning residents follow these rules closely, a handful of bad seeds do not; particularly during the winter months.
There is no protected sidewalk for walking from your apartment to the community center. Most tenants drive 20 to 30 mph to/from their homes. If you walk along the main boulevard, always be aware of traffic for your health and safety. Those cars driving over the posted speed limit of 15 mph will not slow down for you. Some of the faster cars will even go so far as to honk at you- as was the case when a guest was visiting me.
The billiards and movie rooms are very nice features. However, they now come with a new $75/3-4 hours rental rate. You CAN use them for free if no one is currently using/renting them. But that does not happen often. Most likely, the leasing agent will not tell you about the rental fee when you visit. Ask for details in writing if you plan to make use of these 2 features.
The maintenance team responds to all calls (small or large issues) within 24 hours. You DO receive your money's worth from the "creepy" maintenance team. All appear to live on-site.
One last note, pay attention to the rental/vacancy rates in this community. I suggest driving through the community at night with full awareness of the numerous units that do not have lights turned on. These units appear to be vacant; blinds are open and no furniture can be seen in the rooms. Ask about resident retention rates and even the resident abandonment rates. When I moved in to my apartment, the mailbox was filled with 2 to 3 months of mail for the previous tenant. The gas had been shut off for non-payment. According to Columbia Gas, the leasing office knows about the status of all gas lines. Regardless, I moved into an apartment without hot water or gas heat during Ocotober. In the community's defense, they allowed me and my 2 dogs to use one of the fully furnished apartments until the gas was reinstated.
For a good stay at MCC, live on the second floor, do not anticipate ANY social community events, have a clean pair of shoes waiting for you at your front door and do not expect to use the special amenities (movie room/billiards room) during normal hours (afternoons and evenings) without paying a fee.
As an alternative to MCC, I suggest a rental home in Upper Arlington or Grandview. It will cost about the same but you will find it has an excellent location to shopping, schools and restaurants. You will have your own private backyard without worrying about other people's dogs. And, most important of all, you will have only your own noises to listen to while you are trying to sleep at night.
