Runaway Bay definitely has some attractive features such as a pool, nice scenery, and the lake. Unfortunately, many of the negative reviews are accurate when they complain of ancient appliances, slow running drains, and incompetent office staff. While those things are not a huge deal, recent developments make Runaway Bay an unattractive proposition.

Just within the past month, at least 5 apartments have been broken into, and over a dozen cars have had their windows smashed and stuff taken. Don't be fooled by the advertisements that call it a "gated community". There is a gate at the front driveway which is wide open during the day, and is broken about half the time otherwise. There is no fencing or anything else to keep people from just walking onto the complex. There are no security patrols, and the Columbus police don't patrol the complex since it is private property.

Overall, Runaway bay is not worth the money they charge for it.

I use to love living at Runaway Bay (I even wrote a positive review about it). However, since they got rid of the parking permits it has been going downhill fast! My neighbors car was just broken into over the holidays and I think my car was rifled through. I had forgotten to lock my car door, but was lucky- his window was broken out. There are some dodgy people that have moved in to the complex. There is a couple in the building next to us that has people over all the time. This would not be a problem but they are frequently in drunk arguments in the parking lot. Just the other day one of their visitors peed in the carport in broad day light in plain sight over anyone. I will be moving once my lease is up.
