I lived at Runaway Bay from 2006 until 2009.

When the complex was owned my AIMCO, all was well.

In late 2008 JRK Residential Group bought the complex, and it all went down hill from there.

I stopped receiving monthly statements of how much I needed to write my check out for (water bill is on your rent bill so the exact amount changes month to month), and every time I called to get the total 75% of my calls would go unanswered.

As prices continued to rise and the quality continued to drop, I decided to not renew my lease because of the new owning company.

I was told when I turned in my keys that I would receive my security deposit within 33-45 days.

45 days went by, and I decided to wait another 30 days before contacting the office to inquire, thinking maybe there was a minor delay.

After waiting 2 1/2 months now after moving out, I contacted the office to inquire on the status of the deposit.

I was told that the check would be on its way shortly.

I called again 2 weeks later to find out where my check was, and I was told that there was a delay on corporate's end.

I called again in another 2 weeks and was told by the manager ------- that I would receive my check BY FRIDAY at the LATEST and ASSURED it was ON ITS WAY.

Another 2 weeks went by and I called again; this time ------- claimed there were maybe issues with the mail carrier.

Another 2 weeks went by and I spoke with the office ladies who always referred me to -------, but occasionally would tell me themselves that a "batch of deposits were set to go out by end of week" and that I should wait to see if my check is in there.

Still nothing.

I called back 2 weeks later again and was told ANOTHER "batch" was being delivered at the end of the week and to wait again.

I called back another 2 weeks later and spoke with ------- again, who this time told me that there was a DELAY on CORPORATE'S END and he would see what he could do.

After being livid and knowing I was being lied to after 6 months of moving out, I finally decided to take matters into my own hands.

Within seconds I had JRK's Corporate number in front of me thanks to the good ol' internet and called them up.

Within 1 week of contacting accounting at JRK Corporate HQ in California, I received my security deposit.

The corporate accounting manager was very nice, and had not received ONE WORD from ------- that I needed my check.

------- LIED to me EVERY single time I called for the past 5 months!

This is GROSSLY UNETHICAL and if JRK Corporate had not been so kind to me and expeditious with correcting this issue, I would report JRK to the BBB.

DO NOT RENT HERE IF ------- IS STILL THE PROPERTY MANAGER OF RUNAWAY BAY.

It is one thing to be honest and tell someone that you are behind on getting return security deposit requests into Corporate; it is another thing to lie to their face for over 5 months.

Ridiculous.

There is an Ohio law that if you do not receive your security deposit in 30 days after move out (you must provide your forwarding address), you are entitled to double the deposit. One of my friends is currently suing them because of this. It is not too late for you to do as well. It is the Ohio law.

I work for JRK, This is unfortunately no surprise to me to hear this. I would, no mater how "nice" the Corp office was, still report them to the BBB... They are very unethical as a whole... not JUST ------- at that property. He was most likely doing as he was instructed BY the Corp office. They will take perfectly normal people and try to make them into lying money driven unethical people, and threaten you and eventually fire you if you will not comply. this is from the ground up in the company. Again I urge you. report, report, report them. Nothing will change till you do...
