Use Caution, when dealing with the Connor Group!!!!

I have been living at Sterling Place Apartments for about 3 years now. I have been pretty happy with the personnel and maintenance within the company. Although the property did change hands several times in my time here, I have been able to adjust to the changes and liked the new employees for the effort. Sterling Place Apartments are beautiful on the outside and rotted on the inside. I love the area we are in and the outside view. I am willing to tolerate the shabby insides as long as maintenance and office staff put out the necessary effort to keep my apartment in working condition.
Although consider, when signing a lease with Sterling Place or any other property owned by the Conner Group be sure you read all of the lease thoroughly before signing. Upon the resigning of my lease at Sterling Place, I was rushed to do it in one day so my rent would only get increased $30 instead of $60 a month. The apartment staff assured me that nothing has changed from the previous year except the increase in monthly rent, as my husband and myself trustingly signed the papers. When I opened my water and trash bill, it increased $15 month. When I called the water company on this they said that we now have to pay common electric which was somewhere in my lease. Hmmm, I thought they said nothing changed. My new lease don t even start until July 1, 2006. It is May 5, 2006, did I also sign over my right to finish out my old lease the way it was' This is not the first time I have been lied to by the office staff concerning lease issues since the Conner Group took over. Make sure you read everything thoroughly and read between the lines. I think I would use this same caution with any property owned by the Conner Group since they are the ones who train their employees to lie to tenants about leases. From my understanding, they own properties all over Ohio and a few other states.
Also consider that the cost of living in these apartments is actually a lot higher then other apartments for more then just your rent price. They have small air condition units that do not adequately cool your apartment in the summer. Your electric bill at this time will run about $200 to $300 a month and you will still not be cool enough. In the winter, don't use your heater or you will have a gas bill of at least $200 month plus an electric of about $100. The windows let all the elements in because they are old and have no protection against weather conditions. You could feel the cold or hot air coming in when they are closed. Then there is the allocated water/trash/sewer/electric, which just keeps going up. For me this is about $50 month. Consider what the average for these bills in other apartments compared to here and add it to your rent cost.
Additionally, since the Conner Group has bought these apartments my rent has increased on average of $45 year. The first year they came in, the office staff told me that they were only going to increase the leases by $10 month since they know the tenants have been through so much. What a crock of SH..! When it came time to sign the lease, it was like oh, now you also need to pay water/trash/sewer. That ran me an additional $37 a month, which increased my rent the first year by $47 a month. The second year they said they are going to increase my rent $30 a month, but after I signed my lease I found out that now they added common electric to water/gas/sewer which increase it $15. So my increase in rent the second year was $45 a month.
I dont know about other people, but as a tenant I like to know I can trust the owners of my apartment community. I would have rather them be straight forward about these additional cost then lie to me. Yes, maybe you will loose tenants, then again maybe you wont, but the bottom line is that people get really angry when lied too. I probably would have stayed both years even if I would have know up front about these additional cost. I would have been annoyed but far from angry. These lies have lead me to not trust the Conner Group and I will be very cautious in the future whenever signing a lease with them.

The apartment complex I rent from is Grandview Summit in Crestview Hills Ky. The Connor Group purchased this property in May 2008. Just as you stated above my water bill tripled. The staff is unprofessional and not help full. I called regarding a light in the hall being burned out two months ago and it is still out. When I had to renew my lease they put they had the number of months correct but the actual dates were incorrect. I had to argue with them about what the dates should be for seven months. As soon as my lease is up I will be out of there, which is to bad because I really like my aprtment.

The Conner Group purchased the apt. complex where I presently live (The Addison "Luxury" Apt.'s in Alpharetta, Ga.)aprox. 8 months ago. I have never dealt with a more dishonest, unethical group in my life. They depend on "contract workers" (people in the U.S. on temporary work visa)to keep the demand and price per unit insanely high. They have no regard for their reputation or long term customer satisfaction. I am happy to say that in less than 2 hours I found a spectacular apt. complex and will be saving more than $200. a month! We are outtta here!!!
