I have been living here for seventeen months and am ready to leave. The apartments in this place are nice, but the negatives far outweigh the positives.
The apartments are overpriced for what you get. The overall upkeep of the building is horrible. The common hallways are never vacuumed. There is trash all over the carpeting on every floor. The main problem with the Cannery is the tenants. While tenants are friendly and polite to one another, every weekend beer bottles are left in the elevator, the lobby, and the hallways. The entry of the building is always a mess because tenants toss their junk mail aside and just leave it in the lobby. The post office regularly puts mail in the wrong boxes here. Rather than slide the mail under the door of the right apartment (as I do when I get a neighbor's mail), most tenants just leave it in the lobby exposed to everyone else. Management has tried addressing this on several occasions, but many tenants in this place just don't care. Late at night, you'll frequently hear people yelling in the hallways on their way back from the bars. The Cannery recently started allowing residents to have dogs, and you now hear dogs barking throughout various parts of the building. For the last several days, there has been dog poop in the main stairwell. The Therapy Cafe on the first floor sometimes has live music until 2am a few nights a week, which can be heard inside. On nicer days, Therapy Cafe patrons hang out on the outdoor patio and the drunk ones like to scream at random for no apparent reason, which can also be heard indoors. Parking is inconvenient, but not horrible. You can usually find a space within a block, but you'll have to pay for a lot when there's a Dragons game going on. If you stray more than half a block from the building at night time, you may encounter a homeless person asking for money. For some reason, there are repeated false fire alarms. I have personally experienced seven in my seventeen months here, and I am frequently away so there may be others I am not aware of. Most occur at night when you're trying to sleep, and you're required to wait outside until the fire department gives you the okay to go back in. The Cannery has never once apologized to their tenants for the repeated nuisance. I don't know if it's a problem with the alarm system, or certain idiot tenants pulling the alarm as a prank. But in any event, false fire alarms occur regularly here. In my apartment (and presumably in some of the others), due to the placement of the furnaces and ducts, my neighbor's furnace creates a constant and annoying buzzing sound in the bedroom whenever their heat is on, which is most of the time.
While the individual apartments are nice, there are too many negatives that you should consider before renting here.
