Don't Move Here

Many of Chatham Village's residents have lived here for many years. We have notice horrible changes in those years. I have children, but there is no safe, clean place for my child to play other than in front of my townhouse. However, management does not want children to play anywhere but on the playground. My child has been approached on the playground by teens to smoke. The equipment is broken and ugly. The landscaping was beautiful many years ago, but slowly most trees have been removed, and recently shrubbery was removed. In fact, in front of my home is an exposed hole with a few bricks and sticks in it. I contacted maintenance twice over the last 3 months and they never filled the hole. I had a leak in the ceiling that took quite a while to fix and the toilets constantly needed to be fixed. Unfortunately, the maintenance team at this time is slow. I don't know if they are overworked or inexperienced, but either way the job doesn't get done. Recently new neighbors moved in who curse and argue almost daily. For the first time ever, I had to call the police on a neighbor. There is more than one registered sex offender in the complex. In the last two years, one of my neighbors and her child were by a flasher while going to their car at night. Also, my car tires and those of several neighbors were slashed. There are many good, friendly kids and adults living in Chatham, but unfortunately the neighborhood is changing rapidly for the worse. There are worse places to live in Kettering, but not very many.

The reason they don't want the children to play in the front areas is because 1. they don't stay there, they tend to run around the parked cars and sometimes (accidentally) damage them 2. They are unsupervised and could DISAPPEAR! and 3. they look in peoples windows, and play in the hallways. I have caught children here CLIMBING ON CARS. Please be aware that their requests as to children playing are for everyone's safety and consideration.
