When my boyfriend and I were first came to look at Chatham Village, we were treated wonderfully and promised that we would be very happy here. We were shown an apartment that was clean, and freshly painted. The hallway leading into it was also very nice and everything looked beautiful. We signed the lease and were very excited to move in. When we went to our apartment it was in a completely different building than the one we were shown. The apartment smelled like wet dog when we moved in and had stains all over the carpet. They also never did a walk through with us like promised and said would do in the lease. When my boyfriend went to go take a shower we realized we had NO hot water. To me, this sounds like routine maintenance and they should have known this. It took them 5 days to fix the hot water since they kept telling us it "wasnt an emergency." We made it clear before we ever moved in that we did not want maintenance entering when we were not here. However, they entered at this time, which by law, is not allowed. We tol d them again and they swore it would not happen again and they "put it on our file." Our toilet rocked from not being sealed, there were holes in the carpet, the shower was falling apart, and everytime we called they would do NOTHING. we moved in in november with these issues and they got fixed about 2 months ago, which was may. We had many other maintenance issues which would take pages to explain but they entered our apartment once again without us being there and without our knowledge.
Basically, all this led up to my mom and I having a meeting with Suzanne. She thought they did nothing wrong, even though they broke the law and our lease numerous times. But she agreed to release us at the end of September instead of November. We took what we could get and were not going to push any further. However, the other day our air went out.My mom had to call because they know me at the office and they know I am 18 and they NEVER will listen to me or do anything for me, but when my mom calls they are happy to help. My mom told Suzanne that our air was out and I did not prefer them to come fix it until 530 or 6 when my boyfriend and I would both be here. She started screaming and yelling at my mom that was not fair to them and she wasnt paying her men overtime and that they were going to come in here whenever they pleased because they were their apartments not mine. She then hung up on my mom. At this point we . feared for my safety, as we still do. They did come fix the air much to our surprise. However we decided to call Vaughn Group and tell them exactly how their apartment manager was acting. They seemed to care at first and my mom told them if they let us out of our lease she would take no further action. When they called my mom back they took a completely different attitude because Suzanne had told them lie after lie, that my mother was yelling and cussing at her(which is absolutely not true). My mom even had them look at this website and they still defended her in every regard.
Basically, Suzanne using scare tactics on all of her residents. She treats you with zero amount of respect and believes she owns you. She pays no attention to the law, and instead makes up her own laws. We are moving in 10 days and it is 10 days way too long. I fear for my safety, my cars safety, and the safety of my personal belongings. I am gone all day and fear she could come in here even though law clearly states we need to know about it unless its an emergency. Vaughn group is no better and goes along with what she says and also tells lie after lie. They think we wont take this any farther but we are already looking into attorneys because it is not about having to pay all this rent anymore, it is about letting them get away with all these illegal things they pulled. This has been the most stressful 9 months of my life and my boyfriend and I could not be any happier to be moving away from here and never ever coming back.

Lived here?

I have lived here more than a year now and never had one problem with management nor maintenace. However, I am a resident that does pay my rent on time. Most of these reviews are probably past residents that didn't pay on time anyway and might have been evicted!!! Everytime I had to put in a maintenance request which is not very often, they responded within one day. Which is more than I can say for the last place I lived in Kettering and from what I know and states in lease, once you put in a maintenace request, that alone gives permission to enter. No problems here...the community is beautiful and everyone is great. I would say come on in to your new home.

This place is a joke, and the the staff suzanne and holly are the rudest alcoholics I have ever met. I usually do not refer to people as wastes but I do not see where these two make this a "beter place" Suzanne is rude and money thirsty. If you try to move out they will try and screw your credit and take all the money they can get.

I've never had a problem either. So many other places are atrocious, and all these things seem to be rather minuscule. Did you know that you can light your own pilot light on the water heater? If you needed your mother to call the office for you, you shouldn't have been living out on your own. If maintenance entered without permission it might have been do to a misunderstanding. If you don't want them to enter you have to tell them so. I've lived here three years, and I haven't had a problem at all like this.
