Comfortable Living at an Affordable Price

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

I was a resident at Chatham Village for one year (from August 2008-August 2009). I chose to move into the apartments because they seemed fairly nice and spacious for a very affordable price. I lived in a two bedroom, two bath, single floor apartment. I lived in the section off of Brattleboro Crt.
Cons: The apartments are older. My apartment had no laundry hookups, and therefore it cost $2.75/per load in quarters. The windows are very cheap and therefore are very drafty and also transmit outside noise. Some of the appliances are older and will most likely breakdown at least once during your residence. The hot water heater was fairly small and was usually unable to provide hot water for more than 40 mins; this becomes a problem if you have a roommate who also takes a hot shower prior to going to work/school. The door at the entrance to my apartment room itself was somewhat of a disappointment. It is not insulated around the edges and it is fairly easy for neighbors to hear what's going on in your dining room/living room. Although the maintenance people are expedient they often will leave messes for you to clean up after their repairs.
Pros: The apartments are very affordable; at the time I signed up my rate was $600.00/month (with a roommate thats only $300.00!). The security deposit is inexpensive, mine was only $100.00. The laundry facility is a very close walk to my apartment and they just installed 4 new washers and dryers around July, 2009. The central air is a very nice thing to have. I had issues with the dishwasher in my unit three times, and 2 out of the three times they fixed it within the next day; the other time it took them 3 business days. The staff in the office is very courteous and friendly; they get to know you by name and are very easy to work with. From my experiences the area is fairly safe, there was a domestic dispute issue with the folks who lived below me but I never felt threatened. There were nights where I would forget my wallet or phone in my car and leave it unlocked and I never had an issue with thievery (I would not suggest leaving your wallet/phone in your unlocked car however :D). The neighborhood is nice, Chatham Village is essentially an apartment development that somehow ended up in the middle of a residential neighborhood.
Misc.: The area in was a mixed bag of people. Age breakdown I would say 30-40% of the population was college age with the remaining 60-70% being small families. Driving, it took me about 20 mins to get to WPAFB Area C and 15 mins to get to WPAFB Area B. Read your lease and follow what you sign and agree to; although I had no issues, I could easily see where others could run into a hefty fine. If you don't file a written notice of intent to vacate 60 days prior to the end of your lease, Chatham Village can (and most likely will) fine you for 2 MONTHS RENT. The mailboxes are small, and I never really figured out whether or not I could actually mail anything out of them. Its not a issue really though, since there is a post office a mile or so away. Also, my apartment had only a deadbolt as a locking mechanism. You are allowed to install additional locks with Chatham's approval for additional safety if you provide them with a key.
Like I said, overall Chatham Village provides a good, spacious living experience at a very affordable price. I only moved out because some friends at work needed an additional roommate in a very nice house they were renting.

My boyfriend & I have lived at Chatham since July of 2009, it is now almost September. I absolutely adore the place. Very nice to walk your little chihuahua around :) Everybody is friendly, some young kids with loud music sometimes across the way from me, but it causes no pain to anyone, and they quiet it at a reasonable time. Very quiet, peaceful residential like neighborhood, difficult to even call it an apartment complex! We have been very pleased so far and think it will remain that way. I recommend this place to anybody looking for a nice place to call home after a hard day at work. :-)
