don't do it

Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2002
I lived in a one-bedroom that used to be a two-bedroom. They never fixed the electrical wiring or heating so I still paid for the bedroom and bathroom of the second apartment. I discovered this one morning when my next door neighbor and I were using our blow-dryers at the same time and blew a fuse. When I talked to the management about it, they admitted this was a problem, said they were planning on doing something about it, but never actually did. My electric bills were huge! I was treated very poorly and felt like they talked to me like I was a little girl despite the fact that I am a young professional.
The pool was not in good shape. It was dirty with cigarrette butts everywhere on the cracked cement. It was mysteriously closed for a long time during the summer of 2002--never really knew why. I saw that someone wrote that "beautiful people" were at the pool...I never saw them!
The heating and air conditioning never really worked very well, which also caused my electric bill to be higher than I would have expected for the size of the apartment. There was not a lot of storage, and I never really felt completely safe. The lighting left a lot to be desired around the complex.
When I told them I would be moving at the end of my lease, they seemed suprised and tried to get me to rent a different apartment. While I did consider it for awhile, I am so happy I moved. I had forgotten what it was like to actually feel warm in the winter, pay a reasonable amount for electricity, live in an apartment that's not from the 1970s, and feel safe. Don't put yourself through the misery I did!
