I would highly advise anyone with any sense not to rent from the Villager. It is by far the worse place that I have ever lived in. Management and maintenence are terrible. If you ever want or need anything done, plan on doing it yourself because if it does get done, it's usually so half-assed. I've lived here for 2 years now and these are just some of the things that have happened.
#1- Upon moving in, the place was filthy dirty like it hadn't been cleaned in years. I complained to management and all they said is it had been cleaned by 2 different cleaning crews. I invited them to go see it for themselves but they wouldn't go. So, I had to clean someone's filth up for a good 2-3 days. It was disgusting!!!
#2- There was a good 20 things wrong or broken when I moved in and still to this day after 2 years, none of them have been fixed.
#3- I haven't had a working microwave since I moved. I was told that it wasn't in the "Villager budget" to get a replacement.
#4- The heater unit is so ancient. Every night last winter I would have to re-light my pilot light because it would blow out. I would wake up sometimes and it was 50 degrees.
#5- I haven't had a working a/c unit for the last 2 years. It would run constantly. (skyrockiting my bill) It NEVER
got ant cooler thatn 78 degrees in the place. When I called maintenence, they did come out but only to tell my that my unit was working fine. I called several times over the 2 summers, but they would never do anything. I'm sure it wasn't in their budget.
#6- My fridge leaks constanly and my freezer won't even freeze ice. They won't replace it.
#7- Toilets run constanly.
#8- Mold and mildew around every window and in the bathroom. I've tried everything to rid it, but it will just return. Huge health hazard.
#9- Appliances, tiles and windows are so old. All original windows (30 years)
The air just pours in in the winter. Again, skyrocketing the bills.
#10- This is one of my biggies since I've lived here. I woke up one morning, walked out of my bedroom and stepped into a lake of water. It had flooded my hallway, bathroom and living room. Well, it wasn't just water, it was also pee and poop. I called maintenence and when they got here, they told me that everytime someone in my entire building was flushing their toilets that it was coming into my apartment! So, they ripped up the saturated carpet and told me that new carpet would be laid in a few days. They called Roto-Rooter and they came out the next day to fix the problem but for another 24 hours I had to deal with the sickening overflowing of pee and poop from probably 50-75 people. The smell was horrific!!! 2 days later they came to lay my new carpet, only it was the same carpet that had been crapped all over. They told me that it had been "cleaned and sanitized" out in the Villager parking lot. Then they laid it back down and it was still soaked from the so called cleaning and it didn't even fit well any more because of shrinkage. Now how disgusting is that' I'm sure that this could be a definite health hazard and a good lawsuit. I'm in the process of calling around to see what can be done.
#11- The walls and ceilings are so paper thin that you can hear everything and every step that is taken especially when you are on the bottom floor like I am. I have 4 kids that live above me and it is constant running and banging from 7:00a.m. until 10:00p.m. They told me when I moved in that the apartments were sound proof. HA! That's just one of the lies I was told by management.
I could go on and on and probably write a novel on how the Villager is the biggest rip-off in the world. If you are even considering renting here, please just don't do it. I don't know one person that lives here that likes it. Don't let the free rent signs or the stupid clowns and hippies at the corner lure you in. They may give you free rent for a month but you're gonna pay it back somewhere down the line. And don't expect to get your deposit back. They don't give anyone a penny back even if your place is spotless. And the false advertising signs saying "Luxury Apartments" are about the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. I'm sure the projects are alot cleaner and more updated than these apartments. Not even close to being luxurious!!! The only thing that is luxurious is the price I pay to live in this hell-hole. Just grab a box and live in it before you live here. You'll be alot happier.
