The locateion is great. The apartments...not so great. They are small. Maintenance is slow and only sub par. The neighbors rude--the ones I had anyway. They do not keep up the grounds except in areas where there is public view. In the winter, the place is a disaster. They barely clear the sidewalks. Outdoor lighting on my building was never replaced or in the hallway and maintenance was told. There was a problem with rodents. A very large groundhog took up residence underneath the front porch. As well as lots of stray cats on the complex. There is NO insulation and my heating and cooling bills were outrageous. When I moved, I was renting a washer and dryer from Appliance warehouse and the maintenance crew came in and took everything without my knowledge. The office wont even tell me. No one has contacted me. They removed things without my knowledge. I called the BBB!!!

You might be happy to know a groundhog got hit and killed by a car on Lakewood last week (YUCK!) But yes, I am also a resident and I agree with everything you said. I haven't had basement lighting for a month.

You may be happy to lnow that a groundhog was hit and killed by a car on Lakewood last week. But I thought it was kind of sad. Anyway I agree with everything you said. I'm a resident of about 18 months now, and I haven't had lighting in my basement for this past month... Stupid Van Buren Village.

To Anonymous: I used to work for a social service agency. If you're talking about Section 8 or a similar government program, the problem is that they have very, very, VERY stringent requirements about which properties "qualify." Things like a cracked sidewalk, any peeling paint, or chips in the walls render a property inelegible. I know you might be thinking "Well, I wouldn't want to live in a place with peeling paint anyway! Dutton should fix his buildings and it wouldn't be a problem!" However, I have seen very lovely properties in Kettering and Centerville which have been rejected because of barely-noticeable flaws like this. It would cost the property owners many times the amount to fix every small issue that they would earn by accepting Section 8 tenants. The truth is, MOST rental property owners do not accept government assistance for this reason. Also, the agencies will just abruptly stop paying the rent if something is wrong with the annual inspections or the recipient's income or eligibility, so the landlord gets screwed by not getting paid in full or getting paid late. I believe in social programs and assistance for those who need it, but let's call a spade a spade. People who need government assistance for rent should not be living in perfectly painted, modernly designed palaces when the majority of us live quite happily in our modest homes with the occasional scuff on the wall and cracks in the sidewalk.

No I was talking about helping with payment on rent because I couldn't pay it all like at Community action partnership. I don't know what your tangent was about but you must not have read the previous blogs. Van Buren Village is not one of the BEST in Kettering and David may as well be a slum lord. The property is the worst. I live in a beautiful unit now near Carillon park and It is WAY better than Van Buren Village!!!!
