Over-priced, shoddy appliances

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2006
I wasn't going to do this, but since apartment reviews helped me locate a better apartment, I thought I should help others. We had been residents for three years (only to keep our daughter in the school district). When we moved in the place was filthy. My daughter's room had worms all over the carpeting and the bathrooms were disgusting. My daughter and arrived a day before our furnishings so we had to borrow a vacuum from the office (which they weren't too generous in doing) just so we could feel a bit comfy. They did offer, after much debate over what we were seeing (keep in mind, they never came in to check for themselves), to have a housekeeper come in the following Monday...2 days after we would have to move in all of our things.
Second, the dryer is older than dirt and runs over 90-100 minutes per load and occasionally has to be put in for a second round. After repeated complaints, repeated half-hearted visits by maintenence, and repeated condescending comments ("well, you have to do a reasonable size load, ma'am), it never got resolved.
Third, a sharp piece of metal sticks up from the carpeting. Instead of replacing the metal strip, the guy told me that when we moved out it would get replaced. In the meantime, keep bashing it down with hammer whenever it pops up. We have gotten cut a few times. After three years, you would think we would be treated like valuable tenants (and one of the only ones who scoop up after their dogs), but final straw came today (after giving notice we would not be renewing our lease) when we got a nasty letter telling us that we were $5 shy on previous months rent that we paid well before the August due date. Because we were shy $5 we had to pay Sept. rent by the 1st (everyone else has until the third) or they would charge us $50 late fee. I'd hate to see what they would do if you owed them $6! I paid rent immediately for September and thanked them for their courtesy letter.
Just be cautioned, throughout our stay the staff has been elitist and rude. When you come to visit the complex in search of a nice home, they will treat you well. When you move in, you are nothing to them.
Finally, the rent is too high for what you are getting. No decent cabinet space in kitchen (but the "upgrades" sure do make it look purdy), and there are so many better complexes out there! We were surprised at how many options we had. We finally chose Northwoods on rt. 23. They have an actual dog park for the pups to run free! And we will be paying $300 less than here. Also, the kitchen rocks! I have space for all my pots and pans and food pantry!
Sorry for the rant. But beware. There is constant turnover, too. Another reason we should've been treated better than we were. We have averaged 2 new neighbors per year per apartment around us. Every left angry, too, but that is their story to tell. We were the only suckers to stay...but then we felt we had to . Now, daughter off to college we are FREE!!!!!! qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
