Not as bad as everyone says it is...

I've been reading the reviews about Lakeview on this site, and so far there are
only a few points I agree with, most of them I do not. I think people were having problems with this complex back before they changed the management. They changed management back in October I do believe, and now there is a new manager and everything.

But anyways... I've been living here for 7 months now and have had no problems so far. First off, Lakeview has a lot of specials going on most of the time, especially in the summer, so I am getting $75 off of rent each month. I definitely would not pay the "full price" for rent for my unit per month, thats for sure. This is because I have an "older" unit, a unit with an old kitchen and carpet. This brings me to my first problem with my apartment- the carpet! It obviously wasnt cleaned before we moved in- and also there are huge stains everywhere (also here when we moved in). I documented them very well on my damage form, that's for sure. The old kitchen is alright though- just some cosmetic damage to the appliances. The whole thing is though, Lakeview charges $100 per month extra for a "new" kitchen. Ugh, nah, I'll save my $100.

Problem 2: Walls are a bit thin, but every apartment I've lived in has thin walls. If you live in an apartment- its going to have thin walls. Just the way it is. My neighbors are generally quiet. They do play music and have their TV's up super loud sometimes, but as of yet I have not had to complain. I hope it doesnt get any worse and I do have to complain, because I have a feeling that LV, like all the other places I've lived, couldnt care less if you have loud neighbors. But, I do have a newsletter that LV sends out monthly that says they have a noise policy that if a person recieves just 2 noise complaints they will be evicted. But I'm not sure yet if they enforce that rule.

Problem 3: Parking! Yes, you get a garage, which is great if you have one car. Also make sure you get a unit with a driveway (some units dont have driveways), so you always have an extra place to park an extra car. But if you have more than 2 cars, good luck finding an off-road parking spot (depending on where you live. If you live in the very back, or by the office, there are long rows of parking). Also there are cars parked here that have been parked in the same spot for months. LV says they tow cars that dont move, but I havent found that to be true yet.

Problem 4: The look of the grounds. Yes, they keep the grass cut, and generally pick up trash. But the siding needs repair very badly! It is falling off, stained, dirty, etc. and just looks bad. Hopefully they fix it come Spring!

Alright now to the positives!

Positive one: The price. For what you get (garage, 2.5 bathrooms, lots of space), this is the cheapest place (IF you get a "special"!). Dont pay "full" price, then its just as much as anywhere else.

Positive 2: So far my and my roommates cars havent gotten broken into. The last place I lived my car got broken into a couple of times, so I do expect it to happen sometime (Its Columbus! You're car WILL get broken into! Have good insurance!) Obviously though if you keep your car in the garage the whole time, it shouldnt get broken into. Crime seems to be pretty low. Cops drive around here pretty frequently, which I feel helps, and also LV has a "security officer" that lives on site. Not sure if he really does anything, but it may help the burglars to stay away. Obviously crime is probably going on anyways, though I havent heard or seen any of it. But this is a big city and it's to be expected. You have to be smart. Keep your garage shut, lock the door that goes into your unit from the garage, keep windows shut and locked at all times, lock your doors at all times... use common sense. I think that because this is Dublin, people assume that it is a super safe neighborhood and let their guard down, which you cant do. Just use common sense.

Positive 3: The people. The people that live here are a bit more respectful, and by this I mean they keep to themselves, dont sit and party outside, dont yell outside and make a lot of noise, etc. The neighborhood is pretty quiet. I'm sure it has its bad parts though- every place does- but generally this place is pretty quiet, the quietest place I've ever lived in Columbus.

In conclusion, I feel you get what you pay for. If I was paying a grand a month, sure I'd expect the place to be perfect. But if you are looking for a resonably priced place with a garage and a generally quiet neighborhood with a great Dublin location, this is a fine place to live. It isnt perfect though- but no place is!
