Moved Out (Finally)

You would not believe how awful this complex is. I was there when the place was owned by Village Park and life was pretty good. The apartment was relatively inexpensive and the leasing staff was great. The day Fath Properties took over (and renamed the place Fairfield Pointe) the entire complex went to hell. The started off with small changes like restricting our access to clubhouse amenities and limiting what we are allowed to place on our porches.

By the time they were done, residents are not allowed to have anything but patio furniture on their balconies (not even a bicycle), numerous convenient dumpsters replaced by 2 trash compactors, people driving trash around in their cars, leasing agents replaced every few months to keep them in the dark and in line, mold growing in my apartment, and lastly, screwing residents over when they leave by overcharging for non-existent "damage" to the apartment. I have known 10 friends and co-workers who have left the complex and none have received their full deposit back. Everyone has been charged for stupid things like refrigerator cleaning when the refrigerator was spotless, but not turned off or cleaning for carpet stains that existed when they moved in. Inspections are not done until after you move out and you are not allowed in the apartment or a chance to fix anything after the inspection. Basically, they can say and charge anything you want and the only way to fight it is with a lawyer.

That is fine and good, but Fath is already tied up in court with several cases involving lease clauses that allow them to tow your car for ANY visible rust (mine was less than the size of a dime). They can also tow cars with any modifications that detract from the value of the community, and that determination is the sole discretion of the leasing office. This gives them the right to tow a car of any resident because they do not like the rims, color, and window decals. This over-bearing policy also extends to motorcycles. The lease specifically states that motorcycles are not allowed on the property unless you receive written permission from the leasing office first. Score one for the good guys; I kept mine there for the last two months before leaving.

Well, it is finally my turn. My lease is up and I am getting the hell out of there. To prove the point that it is time, there was a teenage boy beaten and killed there recently (http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/08/19/loc_fairfieldd
