If you have to live in Middletown, this is a good place

My wife and I lived in Village East for two years. Village East is part of a property management group called Fath Properties, whose motto is "Clean, quiet and well-maintained." For the most part this is accurate. The grounds are well kept - I often saw a maintenance person walking around picking up trash. The neighbors are quiet most of the time. The walls are solid enough that you can't hear anything from next door unless they're absolutely shaking the foundations (which did happen once or twice, but not regularly). One complaint is that the front door into the hallway is not as sound-proof, so you will hear people in the hall - and conversely they will hear you if they listen. Maintenance staff is generally responsive, though there were a couple times when the A/C went out that they were less than prompt in coming to fix it (this during the summer in the heat and humidity of Ohio). Parking is adequate, unless the building is filled to capacity, in which case you may have to park a little farther away if you get in late at night (say, after 10 or so).
A word on the location. The complex is right next to I-75, so there will be freeway noise at all hours. After a couple months though we stopped noticing. It's also located at sort of a commercial hub, if you can call it that, nestled in among a couple restaurants, a grocery store, and a fading mall. The good news is that you can just walk to the grocery store if you want (we did all the time), the bad news is that traffic can be pretty bad before you make it to the driveway into the complex.
Another complaint is that if you live in one of the buildings in the back half of the complex, there is no sidewalk connecting you to places like the pool, the office, the trash compactor (yes, only one compactor for the whole complex, at a relatively inconvenient location for those in the back half of the complex) - so you'll have to walk in the road to get there. Not a huge deal for me, but I would worry about my kids walking down the driveway if I had any. Also there's only one place to deposit mail for pickup, which is at the entrance to the complex - again, not very convenient unless you live right there.
Finally, the laundry facilities - in the townhomes you apparently have your own w/d hookups, but in the standard buildings there are two washers and two dryers for twelve units to share. Good news - you can do two loads at once. Bad news - so can anyone else, and if the machines are in use you'll have to wait or go try another building.
Taken all in all, Village East was a good place to live. Any complaints I mentioned were minor at worst. Certainly it's the best place to live if you find that you have to live in Middletown - all other apartments we looked at were dubious at best, frightening at worst. At Village East we never had any fear of going outside at night, never experienced any theft issues or anything like that. The complex is pretty well lit. The office staff was always friendly and helpful. So, as stated in the title, if you have to live in Middletown, this is the best place you can find.
