I have lived in a Hickory Mills one bedroom apartment for almost 2 years now. I orginally signed a one year lease, then renewed it for another year. If it was a bad place to live, I would not have renewed my lease. I am a Kent State graduate student, so I wanted to live somewhere close to campus and also somewhere quiet. Overall I am very happy with the noise level. Occasionally I can hear my neighbors but typically it is not bad. But I have to emphasize that I live on the end of the building where it is probably more quiet and maybe I just have quiet neighbors. But at any apartment complex, who your neighbors are will be a luck of the draw.
The overall quality of my unit is just average. Certainly not great, but not terrible either. The wallpaper in the kitchen & bathroom needs to be updated as it is VERY old. However, the wallpaper in the living room and bedroom has been updated. When I first arrived at my unit, it was pretty dirty. The carpet was so dirty that it turned my socks black. I rented a carpet cleaner from Home Depot and that made a huge difference. The heater/air conditioner works well and the ceiling fans in the bedroom and living rooms make a huge difference. Plus, my unit is shaded my trees. So, with all this in play, my unit stays pretty cool in the summer (which I love).
If you are a student at Kent State (especially a graduate student) who is looking to live very close to campus in a low-key environment, I think Hickory Mills is a decent choice.
