I started leasing at Walnut Hill in April 2006. I was fortunate enough to get a ground floor apartment that backs up to the woods instead of the parking lot, which means I have a nice view out instead of a voyeur's view in- otherwise I would definitely try to get a third floor apartment. I don't consider the apartments very noisy, although I have met my upstairs neighbor a few times when watching my TV or listening to MP3s on my computer at normal-or-below volume. (He says the bass comes through the floor.) My computer does have a subwoofer, but obviously my TV does not, so that may just be a cranky neighbor and not a fault of the building.

The highs: the rent is some of the cheapest around, easily. Everything else in this price range is a DUMP and a worse location. I-71 is 5 minutes away, with the mall just beyond, and the Metroparks are literally right behind you. (It's like being in Strongsville w/o the rent premium.) There's plenty of closet space, additional storage, and optional garage. The apartments are laid out very simply, but it's easy to get a lot in a little place based on how well outlets and doorways are placed. Water is also free too, but read on for the trade-off there...

The lows: Hot water can be hard to come by sometimes. Just let it run; it'll get there eventually. The buzzer system lacks an intercom or camera channel on TV. Parking can be a nightmare sometimes; be prepared to walk! Laundry facilities can be a pain, since there's only 1 washer and dryer per 12 apartments.

Maintenance: I've never had to call them for anything, but there was an incident where the crew managed to shatter my patio glass by kicking up a pebble while clearing weeds. They had the entire door replaced the next day!

And lastly, a tip to pet owners: they don't check at all to see who's paid a deposit and who hasn't, so don't bother unless mgmt catches it.
