How do you know if you're picking the right landlord? pt2
As I said before a landlord should never go back on his word. One thing that goes on especially on college off campus housing is the inflation or an up rise in rent prices and fees, for example in Oxford, OH or Miami University a college full of students who come from a considerably wealthy background, are in many cases being charged $2,500 - 5,000 dollars per semester per student in the household. now someone like myself could not afford to pay out that much cash! We discovered Miami Village Apts. and the rent for a 2 bedroom 2 bath was $640 deposit 640 last month's rent and also the 1st month's rent. No utilities were included as described over the phone. Unfortunately this was 1 of few places who accepted pets. i.e. if you can avoid a pet while in college do so! But to all my dog lovers out there, I know you can feel me! After getting the apartment in October we realized the heating vents were not working so we put in a request for maintenance, our requests were overlooked time and time again until we decided to put our rent into escrow! After this we realized the maintenance guys were knocking on our door... i.e. always send your requests for maintenance via Certified mail, this will prevent the Slumlord from denying you ever put this request in!.... Now after they finally fixed oour heat (by the way this incident occured during the coldest season of the year WINTER!) they decided to say we have violated our lease agreement with an unauthorized pet!! But Luckily I had kept every item such as letters to us and all the dates as well as letters to them, this should have helped us with this case as they would be extremely helpful in MOST cases! This case in particular proves that the eviction was retaliatory No matter how you look at it! Now after being in court with CMC I realized they were making alot of money off of college students, In most cases the defendents never showed up which left me to believe they just didn't want to deal with CMC or aka Miami Village Apts. After hearing our case we were sure we won the case, In fact I'm still sure we won this case but have not recieved a judgement!! WTF!! The court date was on May 13th and today is August 25th!... Now if that isn't cahouts I don't know what is! What I'm trying to say is the judge had a previous relationship with CMC and "possibly" they have been making money together for a long time! This should be publicized because something of this matter should not occur to ANY college student, and parents who choose to send their children here should be well advised NOT to do business with CMC!! College years should be full of focus and the worry of your living condition should not be. Today I met another tenant who just moved in and he owns an "Unauthorized Pet" this is there way of leverage because they tell you not to mention it on the application then they tell you " If you are a problem" that you are violating your lease with an unauthorized pet! So if they ever tell you that " we typically don't allow that breed but it shouldn't be a problem" GET IT IN WRITING!
OVERALL I recommend that you DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CMC!! UNLESS YOU'RE READY FOR THE MOST HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE OF YOUR LIFE!!
