First let me say, the place is literally falling apart. The concrete steps in front are crumbling. The metal straps that hold the steps steady at the top have broken loose. The beach is disgusting. The upkeep of this building is VERY poor. Maintenance staff is nice, but it's obvious they are told to do the bare minimum and they often break something else while they are fixing what was originally wrong. The end of the building I live on, we never have cold water. For some strange reason ALL the water out of the taps is luke warm. The winter was unbearable because the windows and doors are so poorly fitted that the wind whipped right through them. I felt like I lived in a cabin. We lost heat like crazy and the management refused to do anything about it except decide that we now have to pay for our heat. That's right. Regardless of our lease that said the heat would be included, we were all bullied into signing an addendum that required us to now pay for heat. We are not dealing with a utility company either. We are paying our heat to basically a collection agency that doesn't give us any information on our usage or anything. We then were told that the charges for heat are being divided amongst us based on square footage not usage.
FYI, my heat bill for February was $306 dollars for a very small two bedroom apartment.
There were skunks in the laundry room several times and there are critters living in my ceiling, which I've told them about and they did nothing for three months. Then they hammered a board over the place they were getting in and out of and trapped them so that we had to listen to them scraping and banging and clawing for three weeks before, I'm assuming, they died. I imagine they are still up there.
Lastly, and most importantly, the current property manager is terrible. He is argumentative, defensive, and sometimes down right verbally abusive if you call to complain. When we complained about the heat loss, he told us it was our problem. Then the next day he came to our apartment unannounced at dinnertime to see "what the so called problems" were. When I told him we were eating and asked if he could come back later, he said, "If you want this looked at it happens now or not at all."
We have two months left in our lease and I have never broken a lease in my life, but we are breaking this one. I would rather take a hit to my otherwise perfect credit, than live in this horrible place any longer.
In the thirty years I have rented this is the worst experience I have ever had with a management company.
DO NOT RENT FROM CASTLE APARTMENTS!
You will regret it.

Amen - exactly how ALL of the tenants feel! Run don't walk away from any apartments owned by Castle Apts.
