We moved to Shady Lake from another apartment community cause we thought it was comparable and at a lower price. After being there a month we were wishing we never left the place we were before. The maintenance man was a joke and the office staff were very impersonable unless you came in the office with a check. Upon leaving they were very unaccomodating, but they were more than accomodating to get the extra dollars at the beginning of the lease.
Often times we would come in to no where to park. For many months there were a lot of empty suites that helped with the problem but as soon as people started moving in the problem resurfaced. The alternative was to pay extra for a garage that was further away. In the winter that was unsafe as fas as I was concerned because the parking lot was covered with ice and myself and my child fell out there. They did however make sure to keep the doorway shoveled throughout the day.
The building often had a funny smell, but I noticed whenever someone was to move in, the carpet would be cleaned and the air would be on in the hallway. Our apartment had not been thouroughly painted and it looked like they just ran out of paint in the kitchen and said forget it. In addition, the bedroom that was on the bedroom side was not fully insulated so the room was reflective of the outdoor climate, cold in the winter and hot as heck in the summer. We were more than happy when the lease expiration came up, and would never recommend for someone to move here. Settlers Landing, although more expensive was a way greater value, they gave back our full security deposit, and the staff were pleasant even after we left, we stayd in contact.
I would just say to anyone rental shopping - DONT DO IT!
