I am a physician who lived at Westfield from 2005-2008. While I was there,I had a good relationship with Bertha (the owner), Hall(her son who runs the place) and Matt (the caretaker). I took nothing but excellent care of the place. The apartments are noisy and have thin walls. When I left, because I moved out on Sunday and went out of town, Hall stated he would mail my security deposit to me. Of course this never happened, until I called them and then I only got back $100 out of the $500.Reasons stated for this is "there were burn marks on the carpet and it had to be replaced". Unbelivable!!! I am a non smoker and the weeks prior to my leaving, the owners were casually bringing prospective renters to my apt and mentioning how I have kept excellent care of the place, and no mention of the "non-existing" burn marks.I am very disppointed as they took advantage of my situation and made up a story. If there were indeed "burn marks", they 100% happened after my move. Do not choose to rent a place here if you believe in honesty and integrity.

I'm sorry to inform you that today many landlords do the same thing - or even much worse!! Some landlords across the country are refusing to make necessary repairs. They leave their tenants living in moldy and unsafe conditions, and all the while they are charging premium rents. They routinely steal security deposits by claiming non-existent damages. In fact this seems to have become standard practice. I rent from the biggest landlord in the country (I won't name them). Their rents are very high. In addition they charge extra fees whenever possible, often without having any legitimate reason to charge extra. Of course they get very creative with their extra fees!! The lease says that tenants have until the 5th of every month to pay their rent, however if the rent is not paid by the 1st of the month then they charge a hefty late fee. They never make necessary repairs. Also their rents are sky high. When it's time for lease renewal, without fail the rates go up $100 or $200 per month. In fact I am convinced that if a tenant has a good credit score, then their rent increase is even higher than it otherwise would be. They scam tenants on the utility bills, often charging as much as $300 per month (beyond the rent) for utilities!! They are unwilling to prove that the utility charges are accurate, because they can't prove it. The utility charges are a scam. At many of their properties they leave tenants without heat or AC, sometimes all winter long (or all summer long). When tenants move out and leave their apartments in good, clean condition, not only does this particular landlord make up excuses to keep the entire security deposit, but also they have the nerve to send the previous tenant a bill for amounts beyond the security deposit!! Keep in mind that these charges are bogus: I am talking about tenants who left their apartments in perfect condition and thoroughly cleaned. Any previous tenant who doesn't pay their extortion gets their credit damaged. Also I am not talking about delinquent or welfare tenants here, rather I am talking about responsible tenants who keep their apartments in good condition and who make their high rent payment on time every month. Landlords are becoming more and more dishonest, regardless of how good their tenants may be. With some landlords leaving their tenants living without any heat in cold climates for the entire winter - and I repeat I am talking about tenants who pay premium rents and who pay on time every month - I really have to say that I personally believe that renting is no longer a viable option. As I said above my landlord is the biggest one in the country. They are cheating their tenants as much as they can and as often as they can. They are crooks and they all belong in jail.
