Could have been perfect

I moved in to the new phase as it was opening. I got a one bed/one bath over an attached garage. I was told I had wood floors....try wood-printed linoleum that ALWAYS peeled, no matter how many times they "came out to fix them" while I was at work. The back porch went unfinished the entire 6 months I was there. It was usable, but the wood was rough and never treated. There was a huge spot where a paint bucket had dried to the wood and then been ripped , leaving a veritable booby trap of splinters and slivers of wood just waiting to embed themselves in the feet of friends. Dishwasher didn't work for the first 2 weeks I was there. Maintenance never seemed to have time to make it around. Then there were the crickets...When they sodded the place after I moved in, they brought forth a plague the likes have which have not been seen since the exodus. I killed/cleaned up hundreds of crickets in my inside stairwell every day. I bet I tossed out 10,000 carcasses over those six months. That is not an exaggeration. I killed a couple of black widows in my garage and a few other types of freeloaders that didn't help with the rent.
The staff was fairly friendly. One was quick to go the extra mile for attractive male tenants, if you catch my drift.
The floorplan was incredible, though. It was great for parties and having people over. My buddies were all jealous. Moving in and out through the incredibly narrow indoor staircase challenged the laws of physics; requiring momentum, intuitive couch-work and a disregard for the walls, door frames and stair rails. The ONLY reason I actually moved out was because they only allowed me to sign a 6 month lease, then TOTALLY jacked my rent when I went to renew. I understand it was related to property value appraisals when the phase I lived in was completed, but it went up almost 50%. I couldn't justify paying more than a mortgage and not having anything to show for it at the end of the day.
