I'm an experienced 3X homeowner that needed a place for my wife and pet to stay for a few months while waiting to move into another house. We initially liked Legacy Corner because it was new and safe but we completely underestimated the management.

Even though I signed a 6 month contract and moved out at 4 months, I somehow had to pay a total of 7 months rent due to a tricky entry on the contract. I clearly stated my intentions when I signed up and I know it's my fault for being too trusting but I'm not used to dealing with such sneaky people.

Unfortunately that was just the beginning and I soon learned that many others had experienced different but similar unethical issues with the management. For me the worst part of the whole experience was having to hire a lawyer because of our next problem.

I rented a designated "pet apartment" and had a very well behaved dog in it. The only thing he ever did was urinate on a small portion of the carpet in the foyer hallway one time. Being the diligent homeowner that I am, I meticulously cleaned it up and everything was good as new or so I thought. After moving out, the management used a black light to detect urine stains on the carpet. Of course black lights also detect anything used to clean the carpet as they did here.

Now maybe it s just me but if you re going to rent a pet apartment to someone and you charge them extra money for it, I would think that you understand that pets may cause a little extra wear and tear to the place and that s what the money eventually goes to fixing over time but not this management. They expected me to replace ALL of the carpet in the ENTIRE two bedroom apartment at a hefty expense!

As unnecessary as it was, I was completely willing to replace the hallway portion without argument but they insisted that the shade of color for the hallway wouldn't perfectly match the other carpet and therefore every bedroom, closet, hallway, and rest of the apartment needed to be replaced.

I of course got a few professional opinions that all agreed with me and management eventually relented when I came very close to taking them to court.

I CAN'T STRESS ENOUGH THAT THEY WILL TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU!!!

MILITARY - Please research this place at the housing office and you ll see what I m talking about.

As a former apartment manager I read reviews on this website quite often. Over and over you hear how sneaky the management is and how they charged all of these hidden fees. HOWEVER, it is not legal to charge HIDDEN FEES PEOPLE!!! READ YOUR LEASE IT IS ALL IN THERE! IT IS YOUR OWN FAULT! ALSO, IF THE PET URINENATES ON THE CARPET YOU WILL PAY! NO ONE WANTS TO LIVE ON YOUR PETS URINE NO MATTER WHAT YOU CLEANED THE TOP OF THE CARPET WITH... IT IS STILL IN THERE!!! YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE TO COURT... YOU WOULD HAVE LOST! BEEN THERE MANY TIMES.

amazing how everyone wants to live in the nicer apartments in town but no one seems to think 1. the lease they are signing to pay thousands of dollars is a REAL CONTRACT they should ACTUALLY READ at the time of signing and prior to moving and 2. the rules to keep the place nice and new should apply to everyone but them.....

To first statement, I offered to repair the small portion of the carpet in total agreement with what you've stated above. However, the pet apartment had two bedrooms attached to a living room that were completely clean but management wanted to replace every inch of carpet in the apartment anyway. The only damage was to a small section of hallway carpet with tile on one side and the living room on the other. I cannot emphasize how insignificant this area is to the rest of the apartment without showing you. Addressing their concerns about matching the carpet, I went to several professionals and asked if what management wanted was reasonable. All three said that the carpet could absolutely be matched perfectly and replacing everything would be a complete waste of money. As you stated, I should have gone to court but luckily they came to their senses. To the second anonymous statement (strongly resembling management), your right! I should have paid closer attention to the contract and I didn't. Instead I asked for something specific relying on truth and honesty but as you pointed out, the contract is the bottom line. Unfortunately, I believed what I was being told and in a hurry, I signed something that was slightly different. I paid my rent, I learned my lesson, and I will not make that mistake again. I only urge others to understand that this management misrepresented themselves to me and I ultimately paid the price.
