Clean, Newer and Fairly Nice

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2005
I have lived here at AP (Alameda Pointe) for a little over 7 months now. I am planning on moving out to another part of town, into a similar priced home/apartment. For the most part, this is a very good choice for someone alone or with one room-mate.
** Interior **
The apartments themselves are newer, thus are still very and have new appliances in the kitchens. Carpeting is what you would usually expect from a complex - but they usually clean or replace it when needed for a new tenant. Closet space is normal, with some of the two bedroom units offering a large living room and dining room with utility closet. All together for the price the space is good for the quality you get. Newer windows are a plus, they open very easily and seal tight during the winter months too help keep energy costs down. I have had no problems with Bugs, Roaches, Spiders or any insect issues whatsoever.
** Location **
The apartments are not located in the most desirable part of town, and they are also a couple of miles from University Center. Nearby grocery stores and several small shopping complexes keep your errand time down. Generally speaking, East Norman is considered a working class district, with a number of other apartment complexes of much more inferior quality.
** Grounds **
The grounds themselves are not much to talk about. They try to keep plant life and grasslands green during the warm season with CONSTANT sprinkler watering. During the school year, grounds are occasionally littered with a beer can or two, but they make quick efforts in the mornings to pickup trash around the grassland areas. Some pet defecation occasionally becomes a problem but the management staff has worked to rectify the problem by asking pet owners to walk their pets on the perimeter surrounding the complex.
** Pets **
Since we're on the subject of pets, I would not recommend this complex for dogs. There are simply not enough places to walk your dog on the grounds. Additionally, some owners are bad about letting their pets run unleashed.
** Parking **
Simply put, parking is a mess. This complex is generally full during the school year, with some tenants having guests on weeknights and weekends. This is a major problem, especially on the west side and front sides of the complex, near Alameda Road. You will be walking a further distance to your apartment if you arrive after 8pm in the evenings.
** Noise **
Generally speaking, most of the noise you will encounter is not from other tenants on the property. It will come from either a.) Caroling Frat Boys during the Christmas Months, b.) Apartment tenants from the adjacent properties or c.) from Traffic due to Motorcycles, Import Sport Cars, Squealing Tires from Idiot street racers or Bass from car-stereo systems. This is very much a serious problem if you inhabit the apartments on the front (south) side of the property, near Alameda Road.
Management does make strong efforts to remove noisy tenants quickly - however in the 7 months I've been here I have had minimal issues.
** Management **
With any apartment complex, there are bound to be quarks in management. This is no different. While the staff is friendly, helpful and polite, they do not stand out as any gleaming example of customer service. The grounds manager himself is fairly typical laborer, not friendly and not looking to impress anyone. Avoid him if possible.
** Safety **
Norman, as a whole - is policed heavily. This part of the city is no different. You can expect to see a roving security guard once a night or so. This does nothing to deter vehicle break-ins however (a city-wide problem), which are due to the lack of gates and proximity to other lower income districts. Monitored Apartment Alarms are offered, but only if you have a telephone line and pay the annual subscription.
** Recommendations **
I strongly urge perspective tenants to avoid the front (south) part of the property for security, noise and parking reasons. Opt for apartments toward the back (north), where there is an additional row of parking spaces, no adjacent apartments and less noise from the street.
Tenants should avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles. Stereo heads should be removed and taken inside during the night, especially during the summer months when break-ins increase.
** Summary **
AP is a great place to live by Norman Standards. This city offers up some of the crappiest housing you could imagine (as most College Towns do). AP is one of the handful of exceptions to that rule. If saving money is highly important to you, then look elsewhere. Cost for a typical two bedroom apartment will start above $610.00 p/m. New tenants can expect some sort of "move-in" special.
I would recommend this complex to nearly anyone who wants a cleaner, more modern place to live during their stay in Norman.
