Not bad

Years at this apartment: 2006 - 2006
I've lived here 2 years, in 2 different apartments (and 2 different roommates). The staff is pretty good, in my experience, though I've had to submit a couple work orders for the same thing (broken range hood fan). The closets are very large, and the apartments (2bd/1ba and 2bd/2ba) are reasonably priced IMO. The 2 apts I've lived in were/are both new, meaning new carpet, new appliances, etc. Speaking of appliances -- it's general HotPoint crap, with a poor dishwasher. Other than the broken range hood fan and a leaky faucet (which was fixed quickly), the only other reportable problem I've had was a broken thermostat. Last July (the first full month in the 2nd apt), my electric bill was over $170, which is almost twice as much as any other electric bill I've had. When I first brought this up to the office, they just said "it's summer, it's hot, and it's justified". Right. But, they replaced the thermostat a day later, and, like I said, the largest electric bill I've had since has been only about 1/2 of that original bill.
As others have noted, the apartments are not incredibly well-built. But really, most apartments, particularly in a college town like Norman, are like this. The main annoyance is that you can feel the nails through the carpet in places. This can be quite painful at times, but there's not much anyone can do about it besides purchasing higher-quality carpet or carpet padding.
The grounds are almost always kept very clean, and the place is relatively quite (especially compared to other apt complexes around Norman). Of course, you can hear the folks above you if you live on the 1st floor, but I've never been in an apt in which the same can't be said.
Oh yeah, final annoyance -- the laundry room closes at different times some nights, and they seem to have no regard whether there are clothes in the driers. I've had my laundry locked in 3-4 times, with most of them occurring before the 10pm closing time that I've been told is used. If you don't want your clothes locked in, make sure to remove them before 9:30pm. I sure with they'd give you a little extra time if they see that a drier only has a few minutes left. Oh well.
A lot of this sounds bad, but it's mainly minor stuff. I'd continue to live here if I wasn't moving to another city, if that means anything. The layout of the bottom floors is a little awkward, particularly in regard to the front door opening into the living room, which makes one wall particularly difficult to use. While you do get an additional closet if you choose to live on the lower-level, the living room layout is much nicer (IMO) in the 2nd-level apartments. I sure wish we had a small entry-way closet, however.
I've never had a big problem with parking, though I know others have.
