I have lived at Cedarlake Apartments for over three years now. In June of 2007 our roof began to leak. I immediately notified management and the maintenance man came and reviewed it. After three weeks, the roof had not been fixed so I made a formal request for repair in writing and took it to the manager. It was not well received. I got a we'll fix it when we fix it response. By mid August 2007, roof still not fixed, I received a letter stating that the property value of my apartment had gone up and that they would be raising my rent when the lease expired in September. THIS IS ILLEGAL. The property has lost value due to the roof leak, and by law, for the months of July, August and September, I should have been given a discount on my rent. Instead, they are trying to raise my rent in order to force me to move or to force me to pay for the upkeep of this building which by law is their responsibility. This completely goes against the Non-Residential/Residential Tenants Act of the State of Oklahoma. This is not the first time they have broken the law. They made a blanket notice changing the date that rent was due without addendum to leases, without signature of leasee. I feel that the management group must be in dire financial trouble and would not recommend this place to anyone. On a less important note, there is no hot water in the laundry room. There is a water heater, but it is either turned off or doesn't work. Actually, the water heaters are an issue with many of my neighbors, breaking so often that people have had enormous increases in energy cost. The parking situation is out of control. I was told when I moved in that I could have a small garden in front of my apartment, one of the reasons I chose this complex. Every spring the landscaping crew destroys something in my garden. So much for perks.
