Could be wonderful ... but isn't!

This apartment complex has lots of potential, with it's wonderful setting in the trees and location close to the university. However, constant problems with maintenance, quality of the apartment, and safety issues leave much to be desired.
Since we moved in 2 months ago we have been fighting to have maintenance issues dealt with. Some things that were supposed to be done before we moved in (painting newly placed deck boards, replacing interior door that has a hole in it) are still not done. Others took quite some time and some work on our part to see them done. Larger issues have come up, including a roof leak, and an air conditioning leak, which have been ongoing and are only slowly being fixed.
The quality of the apartment is lacking. The insulation seems to be nearly non-existant, and though the apartment is listed as having air conditioning, it doesn't do much good. With the AC set at 80 degrees it runs nearly constantly and almost never manages to keep it cool. Add to that the spendy power bill (small apartment - $185 power bill) and you see where the problem is.
The apartment was listed as being plumbed for a washer and dryer. What they mean is that your pantry is converted to a closet for a stackable washer/dryer you can rent. And, the door has to be removed because it doesn't fit all the way in. So much for storage space in the kitchen!
I love living with so many trees outside my balcony, but I do miss feeling safe! I have a dog, so I frequently walk outside at night. There is one particularly scary corner of my building where no light reaches ... a constant source of fear for me as it would be a wonderful place for someone to wait. There are few lights, and they aren't well placed. Safety is obviously not a big issue with the management.
Parking is another issue. At our building it isn't too bad. We have had room to park our 2 vehicles within a decent distance the whole time we've been here. But we're lucky. Many apartment buildings, which house 8 families, have 3 or 4 spots in front of them. These people have to park much farther away, to say nothing of having 2 vehicles, or visitors. Parking seems to be a constant issue for most residents.
