Nice staff, old facilities

Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009

My wife and I lived in Hampton Woods for eleven months. The major reason for our move at the end of August 2009 was to shorten my wife s drive to work. Although we had read several complaints about Hampton Woods before we moved in, we had a good experience there. The staff was always friendly and followed through on their promises. We only had to request maintenance twice, and both times it was completed quickly and satisfactorily. It is worth mentioning our second maintenance request came AFTER we had given our 30 day notice to vacate, which means they fixed it not to try to keep us happy and the money coming but because they wanted to do the right thing. We also liked the pond outside our apartment that had ducks, frogs, turtles, and the occasional crane, although there were long periods were the pumps were not working correctly and the ponds became stagnant and nasty looking. Our complaints about the apartment complex have nothing to do with the staff but everything to do with the aging facilities. The walls have discolored spots from water damage and mold/mildew, the rooms can never be completely cleaned from years of use, and the utility bills reveal how outdated the insulation is in the buildings. When we moved in, there was a terrible smell from cigarette smoke that still was not gone when we left (although it got better with time, since we do not smoke). The carpet was blue and heavily stained, unlike the clean, cream colored carpet in the model that we believed we were getting. If you get a washer and dryer in your apartment, be prepared for even less closet space. The price is ok for the Norman area, but if you are willing to move just a bit north, the Fairways and Greens in Moore offer more space, newer facilities, and a lot more amenities for almost the same price. If we were to live at Hampton Woods again, I would insist on having an apartment with the same colored carpet and walls that is shown in the model and the assurance of the management that any smells will be dealt with by whatever means necessary (repainting, changing carpet, etc.). In short, it s a good place for a college student to live, but it may not be the best for anyone that is picky about aesthetics.

Also, since this website tracks price, please note I had a one bedroom apartment with washer and dryer with a 5% discount for working for OU.
