living there good experience/ move out charges overboard

I had a reasonably good experience for the year and a half that I lived in the apartments;however, when I moved out and got the charges, they listed a $380 charge for replacing the carpet. We were told that there were pet odors. We don't own a pet; therefore, there was never a pet in the apartment. We contested this charge but they refused to consider they might have made a mistake. Their only proof were two photos. One showed a stain on the carpet which we had listed to be there when we moved in. The second showed a stain on the underside of the carpet which could have been there from the tenent who had lived in the apartment before as it wasn't pulled up at that time. You might luck out as they are not consistent about charges. One friend, despite his burning a hole in the carpet, got his $150 deposit back. Another friend was charged $2000. I wouldn't recommend taking a chance or be sure to take a walk through with management when you decide to leave.
