Years at this apartment: 1994 - 2007
I needed a quick place to live and Brookwood Village Apartments (BVA) met this requirement. I moved into the complex in October. The apartment was cosmetically clean but I was worried from the start after finding that by simply walking down the hallway, my footsteps could actually rip the carpet. Unfortunately, this was after I had moved in and signed for the apartment. I knew dry-rot and it was obvious to me that the apartment had been flooded numerous times prior to my occupancy. Sure enough, the apartment flooded over and over again. I use to dread waking up in the morning and swinging my leg's/feet to the floor less I felt cold-water seeping between my toes. I still continue to live in BVA but not in the same apartment. I now live in an apartment that has been invaded by termite swarms twice in the past three years; infected by brown-recluse spiders. I've been bitten twice by these spiders and I'm lucky to have only sustained minor tissue-damage. The garbage areas go for days with old mattresses and furniture leaning against the refuse-receptacles. The current management group, Cube, Inc., is intent on raising the rent of these 40-year old apartments to the level of two newer managed properties, one five-year old and the other two-years old. Cube's philosophy is band-aid their maintenance instead of fixing the problem. The swimming pools are frequent colored green with alga and the laundries are mostly found with a wet-area around the washers and dryer's. I already know that my next lease will require a monthly increase of $49 per-month increase. After that will be another $49-$60 per-month until the rent is equivalent to the newer properties. Almost all of the long-term residents have revolted against these enormous monthly increases in rent. Cube, Inc. advertises these apartments as luxury-living but believe me BVA is the pits. The cops are over here frequently for domestic-violence and drug-raids. In my opinion, BVA is a sanctuary for illegal-immigrants moving between cities. The only people that would like BVA are those people who are waiting to die; those who can't afford better; or those who need a place to hide from INS/ICE. Think I'm exaggerating, try it!
