Same Apartment, 3 years, Could be Better

From: -Anonymous-
Date posted: 1/16/2005
Years at this apartment: 2001 - 2004

I lived in a 2 bd/2 bath, third floor, with a nice vaulted ceiling. Numerous recurring maintenance issues arose even though I was only the second tenant to occupy the apartment: window leaks and the a/c & heater, and thermostat malfunctioning. They were usually prompt about coming out to fix things, but the same problems kept coming back every couple of months. Carpet is poorly laid with exposed nails or staples at the edges (watch your toes!). Insulation was definitely a problem. I even had snow blow through my closed balcony door my first winter here. They installed weather stripping (which should have been there in the first place) but I still felt cold air coming through all around the door edges. Heating unit is not sufficient to adequately heat the entire apartment. The blower is too weak and I ended up closing off the vents to 1/2 of the apartment in order to get decent warmth for the living/kitchen and main bedroom areas. That said, the location of the apartment was mostly decent. I did have the traffic/train/occasional drunkard noise problem, but I adjusted to it and didn't even pay attention to it after a while. There is also a drunk tank across the street from my building and ambulances & fire trucks drive down the street with their sirens blaring at all hours. That was more annoying than the actual drunks walking to their car at 2am on Fri and Sat. The Bricktown area has really sprouted since I moved here, and with the addition of more restaurants and a new movie theater, being so close to quick entertainment is pretty cool. I also have a great view of downtown OKC skyline, albeit it's from my small bathroom window. Parking has never been too much of an issue for me even though I don't rent out a garage or carport. I am never forced to park out on the street for lack of lot spaces. Maybe I just hit it right. :) I do agree with a previous poster about the stupid security gate clickers never working. They are my little evil nemeses. The staff is friendly-enough, and the building is under newer management since I moved in. They don't seem to be addressing the problem of people letting their dogs poop on every green spot on the grounds, but I blame my rude neighbors more. I wish management would make a stronger effort to enforce the pet curbing policy. The reason I recommend Deep Deuce is mainly because of the proximity to Bricktown. If you like meeting your friends downtown for: a drink, or any kind of food (including ice cream now :), dancing, movies, coffee, brunch at the Museum Cafe, a walk around the Botanical Garden grounds during the Arts Festival, studying at the main library, or watching fireworks from your bathroom window (haha); then this would be a decent place to live. Plus, if you have the money and you're not more-wisely buying a house in this cheap-to-buy city, you better be doing all of those things and more. So why not plop yourself close to all the fun stuff' You've been well-advised of the specific complaints. Do your research and good luck!
