We moved out 3 months ago, and we're still dealing with these guys.
Here's the things you should look for...
1 - The staff knows little/nothing, and they will refer disputes to the General Manager, who also knows little/nothing. The manager, who changes about every 3-4 months, really has no power to make decisions and will blame everything on her superiors. This will go on until you are tired of fighting with her, and you'll pay whatever new fee they come up with.
I cannot stress enough. We had everything in writing, even did a walkthrough when we left, and the rep told us everything checked out, that we were good to go. Three months later, we get a call from a collection agent, telling us about unpaid deposit fees. The management never even tried to contact us, so we called. It took about two weeks for us to get a response from them, and when we did, they hung up on us.
2 - Parking is ridiculous. During the day, when you get your tour, you'll see open spots. You won't see them when you return from work.
3 - Thin walls. You WILL hear your neighbors in the throws of love.
4 - The person who sells you the apartment is not a manager. They are a person who lives there for cheap or free, and they are required to lease a certain number of rooms to keep their discount. Once you've signed the lease, they do not care about your little maintenance problems.
5 - Location. Traffic in the morning is a PAIN. Also, the "new" school across the street' Yeah, it's the one you hear about on the news with all the violence. Also, the proximity to the police station gives you hours of enjoyable siren music.
6 - Contracts. Little random fees will turn up out of nowhere. Go ahead, sign the lease, but you'll get a note on your door saying you owe money for this or that...and, if you don't pay, it'll go to collections. The only way to settle a dispute (and, yes, these people are your neighbors) is to take them to small claims court. Either way, you're out the money.
I don't know if it's dishonesty or incompetence, but I cannot suggest more strongly to you to not rent here. Normally, I don't write reviews like this, but I'm so fed up with dealing with these guys, and they're being very disrespectful in our trying to resolve this.
