I've lived in the Aberdeen for several years. While it was owned by a local family the building was clean, the rents were reasonable, and maintenance was prompt. Since that time the ownership has changed and a local property management company has assumed responsibility for day to day operations. While there have been some aesthetic upgrades, they have been done on the cheap. This typifies the approach of the currenty managers (and apparently the owner). While the on sight personnel are generally prompt and curteous, decisions made off sight have resulted in corner cutting efforts that have, in the last year alone, left residents with intermittently inoperative security doors, gates, hot water, a/c, elevators, and laundry facilities. The indifference to the rights of residents has even extended to issues of safety. The common areas such as the sidewalks, hallways, and laundry facility have been found to have nails, screws, and broken glass lying about. Recently there was a fire on the top floor of the building. During the evacutation the OKC FD noted that there was an obstruction in the East stair well (one of two fire escape routes), this was a fridge that had been left there for three to five weeks. It appears that the windows in the stair wells may have also been fastened shut. While watching the FD do their work on the seventh floor (which was done quickly and professionally...can't say enough good things about THOSE guys!) a firefighter was seen struggling to open one of the afore-mentioned windows, and may have been required to break it out in order to provide the necessary ventilation.
In the days after the fire the management company failed to secure the building. Doors were left open, and although the residents were not allowed in the building, anyone else could have come in and taken whatever they liked (several of the doors having been kicked in by firefighters checking to see if the building was empty...again, those guys were doing their jobs...which I can't say for the managers). Apparently taking the weekend off, or avoiding the expense of overtime, was far more important than returning the residents to their homes, or even taking the time to provide regular and accurate updates.
I would no longer recommend this property to anyone who valued safety, security, comfort or simple professionalism. Moreover I would suggest that any property operated by the current managers be avoided.
