Not so hot, but hey, it's cheap

My fiance and I have been living here since November 2007. We were looking for a cheap place that we could get into quickly, so we picked this place solely based on the price. I can say with all honesty that if you move here, you're gonna get what you pay for, which ain't much.

When we came here, there was a different manager than there is now. I'll call her J. J was friendly and nice and even lent us her space heater since the maintenance guy hadn't turned on our wall heater yet. However, J disappeared abruptly after a month or so, and in her absence there was NO management OR maintenance. Frankly, it was scary.

Finally, there was a new manager (and new owners apparently). I'll call her L. L was a nightmare. She was rude to us and was never in the office. The worst part was my purse was turned in to the office while she was there (long story), and she GAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE! It had my ID in it, all she had to do was check it, but no, she said she didn't want to look through someone else's stuff. So it was okay to give it away to somebody else, then' Thankfully, she is long gone now, but I never got my purse back.

The current manager is alright. She's friendly enough, and when I reported that the pest control guys had skipped our apartment and that I had spotted roaches, she was upset and said she would call them back out. That was around last Tuesday or so, and they're coming out this Tuesday to spray. We were also informed that there were going to be some guys out doing some external repairs, which is nice because this place looks like ---- on the outside. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been repainted or anything for probably 10 years.

These apartments-- like many in OKC --were built in the 1970s. In some areas, it shows, and not so much in others. In general, the apartment itself is okay. The walls are clean and the countertops and tile are fairly new. The kitchen/living area looks better than the bathroom, which I think still has the original tile-- it's a very ugly yellow color, but at least it's in decent condition.

The bathroom sink was painted over, but the paint is chipping and the sink is beginning to rust a little. The bathtub is ugly, it's been stained with...something...since we moved in, but I can't get it off and I figure it isn't worth complaining to them about.

Also, there is virtually NO counter space in the tiny kitchen. It's frustrating as hell. However, there are enough cabinets, so that's something at least. Also, the fridge that they put in before we moved in didn't fit, so they had to saw off part of the counter to get it in there, and it still doesn't really fit. It digs into the wall every time you open the door. (I really hope they don't make us pay for that when we leave.)

Oh yeah, and the carpet was dirty when we moved in. It's not old or stained, but it is DUSTY. I don't think the previous tenant ever vacuumed it.

The windows are old and the bedroom one was broken when we moved in. It's not been fixed, so I did my best to seal it up myself. It also doesn't help that the AC is kind of half-assed. It's a window unit that's routed to two rooms, and it doesn't cool so well.

Anyway, enough about that. The people around here are usually nice, but sometimes questionable. There's usually a lot of lurking around and yelling and stuff outside at night. A couple of weeks ago, there was a huge fight out there. We called the cops, but they took their time in showing up.

Parking here sucks. Plain and simple. There's not much room to back up, the spaces are narrow-- I don't know how people parked here 30 years ago in those big-ass 70s cars. Thankfully, though, the same people park on our side of the building all the time, even if they're not in the same place every time. So we don't have to park far away. It sucks when you have friends come over, though; there's really nowhere for them to park except the street.

The street does flood badly. It's done so twice since we've been here, and the last time, our second vehicle was out there. Needless to say, the carpet inside got soaked. So if it even looks like it's going to rain, don't park out there.

Also, the location isn't very good. If you go a little ways south on MacArthur, you're in a questionable area. Warr Acres itself isn't bad, but there aren't many businesses so we usually have to drive over to May or up to NW Expressway to get to anything. It kinda sucks.

Anyway, don't move in here unless you can't afford anything else. Be prepared to deal with a lot of crap.
