Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2007

My fiancee and I rented a two-bedroom from OPV in Fall 2007. We left just before classes started for a one-week vacation to Florida and came back to more than three dozen dead crickets in our apartment (we counted). They claim to routinely spray for insects but we were constantly having spiders, crickets, etc in the apartment. Our bedroom had a massive crack in the ceiling (wide enough to put your fingers into) which is how the bugs got in but it never got fixed despite several complaints to the office.

The "pool" was a joke and had a colony of little aquatic frogs living in the filter. It was never cleaned the entire time we were living there. One time a girl-friend and I decided to just go lay out by the pool and get some sun and two creepy guys followed us, sat across the pool from us, and kept holding up a cell phone. I assume they were taking pictures - how icky is that'

Also during our stay there was a bad leak in the roof which came into our bedroom and stained our mattress. The office staff said they were not liable for any damages and suggested we put a bucket in that room until they could get the roof fixed.

Our neighbor's apartment smelled strongly of pot whenever they left the doors open. One day we came home and their place was completely empty and the office asked /us/ if we knew where they'd gone. Apparently they left without paying rent or giving any sort of notice. It was all very shady. (These were the same neighbors who photographed me and my girl-friend by the pool).

The rest of the apartment was fine. Appliances were old but they worked. Carpet wasn't new but not a lot of wear either. Tile in the kitchen was cheap but reasonably clean.

I wouldn't recommend this place to someone unless they had nowhere else to go. Perhaps it was just my building that was so ghetto but you can find much nicer places to live for the same price (even ones that allow pets).

Keep looking - don't live here!
