new consolidated management is money hungry

If you have pets, I would strongly suggest moving elsewhere!!!
Pet policy has many ways to take your money and the new lease terms state that they have the right to remove any pet at any time for any reason, regardless of valid pet agreement. You also pay a pet FEE (of atleast 300 dollars, even for one de-clawed/fixed cat) and that is non-transferable and non-refundable.
I've lived at Squires for almost a year now. Resident manager that used to be in charge of Squires was very pleasant and was actually the reason I picked this apartment complex over others. The apartments look relatively nice for the price and the proximity to walmart (1 minute drive) and campus (5 minute drive)are excellent. The fall semester went extremely well, maintenance problems were fixed relatively quickly, the only major problem was when the neighbor's garbage disposal/kitchen sink backed up and water flooded my kitchen floor, however nothing was ruined and other than me having to clean up the water myself, an industrial fan was brought in to dry the place out. Over the winter, management was changed and now there is no on-site office, you have to go to the main leasing office and the staff are un-knowledgable and not helpful.
My main issue with the company was that the previous resident manager made a hand-written amendment to my lease and signed and dated it so that it would still be valid the following summer when I renewed my lease. She was fired over the course of the year, and I asked the current office manager to review that amendment and she said that the company would HAVE to honor it because it was put into the lease by a person that had authority to do so at the time. When I was filling out my pre-leasing forms earlier this summer to move up to a larger apartment, I checked again to make sure that the amendment would be honored otherwise there was no reason for me to even be filling out the pre-lease paperwork. I was once again assured that it would have to be honored and that document was stapled to my pre-lease paperwork and I paid the deposit. A week later I received a phone call (after my check had already been cashed) saying that they were now NOT going to honor that amendment after repeatedly telling me that they would.
I did sign a new lease to stay in my current apartment (I wanted the larger apartment so I would have a washer/dryer in my apartment--only the 2 bedrooms have hook-ups) only to get one more year out of my pet FEE and security deposit, but I would not recommend any property that Benchmark owns to anyone moving to Stillwater (includes Wicklow, Eagles nest and Squires Landing)
